Comparison and contrast of two restaurants
The two restaurants that I would be comparing and contrasting are in opposite directions from 3221 Enterprise Way, Miramar, FL 33025. Restaurant A is fifteen minutes drive from the school and is situated on the way of going to my home. It is situated in a busy market area. Whereas restaurant B is around twenty-five minutes drive from the school and is situated in a place, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The ambience of the both the places is as contrasting as the locations and surroundings in which they are located. Restaurant A is very elegantly designed and has glass table tops and bright colored chairs. It has an elaborate menu, which consists of mostly continental dishes. The waiters of this restaurant are very well behaved but since this place is occupied with lots of customers, they are always rushing from one table to another. Due to this restaurant’s popularity and large customer base, there is a great time gap between placing the order and food delivery on the table. If one is alone, then there are chances of getting bored while waiting for food. From outside this place is beautifully decorated but lack of enough parking spaces is a major disadvantage. The food is excellent but slow service kills the excitement of visiting this place.
However this place is also a great time pass because at any given time one gets an opportunity to observe different kinds of people. Once my friend and I visited this restaurant in the busy afternoon hours. We were very hungry and it would have been difficult to pass our time, waiting for the food to arrive. But one incident engrossed our attention so much that the twenty minutes of wait did not seem much to us. Two middle-aged women, sitting on different tables had ordered the same thing. The waiter got confused as to which woman had placed the order first. In this confusion he brought the food to the woman who had placed the order after the other one. Looking at this the other woman started to scold the waiter. The waiter tried to politely beg his pardon for the mistake he had committed. The woman did not want to let away the matter so easily. She demanded that since the woman who got the food first had not started eating, the food should be brought to her table. That woman did not want this to happen. Both of them started quarrelling with each other, much to the amusement of other customers. The two of us enjoyed this incident very much and had nearly forgotten about our hunger amongst so much of commotion.

Though it takes more time to reach Restaurant B than Restaurant A, quick service of this place, makes up for more time wasted on travelling when compared to time taken to reach restaurant A. I generally visit these restaurants after school, so the days on which I visit restaurant B, means covering double distance to reach home. Since restaurant B specializes in my favorite cuisine – Chinese, travelling double distance is worth it. The charge of both the places for a fulfilling meal is nearly equal.
The serene and calm atmosphere of the place with lots of greenery around makes it an enjoyable experience. This restaurant is not as big as restaurant A but lends a very cozy feeling. All the doors and windows are of transparent glass so one feels as if one I sitting in a garden and having food. The inside and outside of the restaurant is not as beautifully designed as restaurant A, but lots of indoor plants inside the restaurant lends a glamorous touch. The Chinese style furniture and wall hangings add to the glamour and theme of the restaurant. Since it is not located in a busy area it does not have so much of footfall, therefore one can expect food within minutes of ordering it. There are no waiters. One has to pay money in the cash counter and collect coupons and then pass it on to the person sitting near the kitchen. When the food comes the person calls the table number and one has to go and bring the food from the food counter himself. The speciality of this restaurant is a large variety of mouth watering and authentic Chinese soups. I often visit this restaurant for its soups and other Chinese delicacies, which are equally good.
I had been telling my mother about this restaurant since a very long time. One wet afternoon she decided to have lunch at this place. Just as we reached there, it started raining heavily. It was an amazing experience of watching the trees and bushes all around getting washed in rain while we relished hot soup and Choupsuey. All the visits to this restaurant after that day make me remember the wonderful experience of having lunch in that rainy afternoon.
The restaurant of my choice is restaurant B because everything about this place is unique. It is not difficult to find restaurants like restaurant A, but according to me there is no suitable substitute of restaurant B. The food, the ambience, the quick service and plenty of parking spaces, makes this place my first choice. If one wants to combine shopping and eating out on a single day then restaurant A would be an ideal choice but if you are really hungry and want to pamper yourself with good food then heading to restaurant B, would be the right thing to do. If at school, I feel hungry then restaurant B is my first choice. Everything about it is good but the best part is its food. Vogel observed, “Much like beauty is in the eye of the beholder , quality is in the definition of the taster.” (para.12) I completely agree with him.

Restaurant Evaluation
Walking into a fast food joint, one expects to be met by a sweet aroma of the delicious foods that are quite appealing. Considering they are supposed to serve customers as fast as they can while at the same time maintaining quality service. Upon entering a fast food restaurant, one would expect to have a view of the whole place in a glance, with counters just around the bend for customers to make their purchase. One would also expect to find people around helping customers make fast purchases as well as clearing tables for people to eat. Without such quality, a fast food restaurant cannot be up to par. Burger King is the fast food restaurant I visited a few days ago, and fortunately did not disappoint my expectations; rather, I was surprised by their smooth, fast service and tasty foods as well as the restaurant itself.…
Ethics and Brazilian Market
When expanding into another country or a new country there are differences in the way meals are prepared and what the culture as a whole prefers as far as ingredients and overall taste. In our study one of the hypotheses is that in order to be successful in the Brazilian market we will need to add more fresh ingredients to our meals as well as adding spices or other ingredients that are common in Brazilian menus. Our second hypothesis is that our overall atmosphere including décor and music will need to be changed according to the Latin culture. We want our patrons to feel at home in our restaurants and our food to be to their liking so that they will return day after day.…

With their take on a “fast-casual” restaurant, co-owners Will Cumberland, Baird Cumberland and Stephen Chan have introduced a unique dining experience fit for its young and urban neighborhood: casual and quick in its service (a great choice for those in a tight lunch break) but at the same time chic and relaxed in its vibe where you can stay longer and have a few beers with friends. The ambiance created from its décor to its menu and the cool atmosphere provided by itskitchen and staff is very welcoming and resonates a holistic vision of Wilbur Mexicana. It is not just a place to get delicious and reasonably priced Mexican street-food but also a place to hangout and share memorable food…

Hispanic Cuisine: a Significant Ingredient in Like Water for Chocolate
Eating is a fundamental activity. Food, itself, is a major component of survival, for without it there would be no life on this earth. Throughout the evolution of man, it has come to have a greater importance with multiple significances to human beings. Furthermore, Hispanic women writers have written articles, screenplays, and novels using cuisine as their driving force. A great example is Laura Esquivel’s novel, Like Water For Chocolate.…

Food Inc - Rhetorical Analysis
The film is broken up into sections, much like chapters, that one by one accumulate in an attempt to paint the broader picture of just how corrupt and ungoverned the food industry is. Unlike many documentaries, this film doesn’t just preach to the choir, in fact it empathises with those who in essence finance these enormous food corporations. We meet the Orozco family of Los Angeles in the section entitled ‘The Dollar Menu,’ and through doing so learn about the predicament facing so many living on or below the poverty line. Essentially, the family has to make a decision on whether to buy costlier healthy foods, or the medication Mr. Orozco requires for his various conditions; understandably they choose the latter. When double-cheeseburgers are available, readymade, for less than the cost of a head of lettuce, it is an alarming indication of why obesity is now a sign of poverty, not wealth and excess, as was once the case. There are restaurants, particularly fast food restaurants, everywhere we look, and we even see food trailers as we take a walk around the city or a park. The writings of Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation and Rachel Laudan’s “A Plea for Culinary Modernism” make the influence of this so-called necessity apparent. Both authors discuss the “fast food debate”, however, each chooses two different concepts to focus on; Schlosser takes an approach to warn his readers of the secretive preparation of fast food, while Laudan praises this newfound creativity in the way food is…

Fast-Food Restaurants: Comparison and Contrast

The fast-food industry is growing fast, and the business trends therein are also advancing. The firms in this industry are facing criticism and continuous controversy as consumer trends, behavior, and preferences change. The industry is not free from political influence, and it becomes a real fight to remain a performing firm. Chick-Fil-A and McDonalds are two firms that are thriving in the fast food business. Fast food stores should offer adequate information about their products to consumers, which is not always possible and convenient. However, fast food chains are thriving, some through compromising circumstances, while the others are trying to make things straight for their customers. McDonalds has more than 35000 outlets in 119 countries ( Ferdman ). The expansion of Chick-Fil-A is rather slow, but it is aggressive on upgrading its services. This essay will compare and contrast Chick-Fil-A and McDonalds fast-food restaurants in the light of revenue, advertisement, menu flexibility, and ethical responsibility.
Notably, fast-food stores aim at making revenues. Both Chick-Fil-A and McDonalds are top fast-food restaurants regarding revenue. In 2014, Chick-Fil-A was at the top of the KFC revenue list. It had revenue of 2.7 million per month and was ahead of McDonalds, which had revenue of 2.4 million per month ( Carla ). Both restaurants capitalize on sales increment through different approaches. Although the two have different business models and are founded on different principles, they aim to increase their sales at every stage. The high sales are evident from their high revenues beyond the other fast food restaurants. Over the years, McDonalds has been earning the highest revenue among fast food restaurants. Since 2012, Chick-Fil-A has taken this top position in revenue earning. The two restaurants seem to be thriving regardless of the controversies they have been facing.
Another asset to fast food stores is menu flexibility. Both restaurants are slightly flexible to accommodate cultural diversity in different locations. Although the fast food menu is limited, the restaurants try to make adjustments to satisfy local preferences. This feature is more common with McDonalds, which has outlets in culturally diverse localities. However, even Chick-Fil-A slightly changes its menu to accommodate different preferences. McDonalds has outlets in Asia, where religious and cultural beliefs advocate for vegetarian diets. To accommodate these beliefs, the menus in such locations include vegetarian meals prepared with discretion from the non-vegetarian ones ( Gasparro and Jargon ). McDonalds has faced charges of misrepresenting some of its menu items as vegetarian despite the fact that they contained meat. To keep sales high, it is inevitable for fast food restaurants to consider consumer beliefs and diet preferences specific to different cultures and regions. Moreover, the knowledge of different preferences saves the restaurants from trouble with the communities. Similarly, McDonalds’ menus are more flexible than those of Chick-Fil-A. McDonalds’ menu consists of chicken, lamb, and beef meat, while that of Chick-Fil-A consists of only chicken meat. This narrow scope limits Chick-Fil-A from diversifying.
In addition, advertisement forms the base of every business. Both Chick-Fil-A and McDonalds have the same advertisement approaches. The two restaurants major on TV advertisement as they also venture in sponsorship for further sales strategies. The two restaurants have been sponsoring sports events. In particular, McDonalds ventures in sponsoring big sports events, such as the FIFA World Cup games. Chick-Fil-A holds one advertisement slogan, “EAT MORE CHICKEN.” To maintain the intellectual aspect of this slogan, Chick-Fil-A has been into confrontations with different corporations ( McWhirter ). McDonalds has been using different slogans over the years. For both restaurants, advertisements have played a big role in increasing their sales and revenue.
Ethical responsibility defines a business’ morality and commitment to the community. Chick-Fil-A is more ethically responsible than McDonalds. After concerns from health organizations that fast food menus are problematic and serve as a source of obesity, Chick-Fil-A has been working on reducing every chemical, fats, and products that adversely affect health ( Choi ). The CEO of Chick-Fil-A says that the restaurant is based on Christian principles, which do not allow devious behavior and irrational way of earning. Therefore, the restaurant will abide by all laws and everything that supports health of the consumers. In connection to that, it plans to be serving chicken raised without the use of antibiotics that lead to some health problems. However, McDonalds is less committed to ethical responsibility ( Gasparro and Jargon ). The restaurant’s management focuses on reducing cost and increases profits. Therefore, they plan to be serving meat from animals raised using genetically modified foods, which puts health of consumers at risk. This is a poor moral approach for the restaurant, since it prioritizes profit over the ethics of business.

In conclusion, fast food restaurants have many similarities in operations. However, there are also many differences, which narrow them to different performance and individuality. Every restaurant has principles governing conduct and operations, which it holds dearly. These principles define each restaurant. As it is evident, McDonalds focuses on expansion and profit-making, while Chick-Fil-A concentrates on upholding Christian morality. It is important for fast food stores to consider the responsibility they have to their consumers and employees before pursuing profits. Every stakeholder, employee, and consumer is important for the perpetuity of the fast food stores; therefore, their welfare should come first. A store is thriving if it cares for its most valuable asset ‑ human beings ‑ and still managers to make considerable revenue.

Over the past few years as far back as I can remember, I have always liked going out to eat. I am going to tell about the differences between two of my favorite restaurants. One restaurant I will be talking about is Logan's Roadhouse the other is McDonalds. Logans and McDonalds are two different restaurants when it comes to the ambiance. Most of the surroundings at Logans include a waiting room with long, leather topped, benches to sit on while waiting. The floor is hard wood and is covered with empty peanut hulls. Music is playing at a medium level, usually Alternative or Country. Sometimes you can barely hear the person sitting right next to you. There is Laughter present and usually a large variety of people sitting all around. There is a bar, a smoking section and a non- smoking section. When going to McDonalds the surroundings are quite different. There are sometimes greasy floors, when dining in you are seated at a small booth the tables really aren't big enough for everything. Unlike Logans McDonalds customers are usually in a rush coming in, ordering their food and storming out. McDonalds usually has some elevator music playing at a decent level and people are always shouting at each other. When you are planning to eat at Loans Roadhouse, you might want to consider making reservations because it can ...

Compare And Contrast Essay On Home Food Vs Fast Food
The fast food industry in don 't blame the eater' by.
In the article, “Don’t Blame the Eater,” David Zinczenko argues it is the fast food industry’s fault for the nation 's growing obesity epidemic. Furthermore, he believes people should not be blamed for their own obesity. Zinczenko argues fast-food is much more available to the fast paced lifestyle people live in rather than consuming healthy alternatives. He also discusses the fact so many people are on a low budget, it is then best and more inexpensive for them to consume fast-food. Zinczenko states a claim that the fast-food industry “would do well to protect themselves, and their customers, by providing the nutrition information people need” (Zinczenko 464). In other words, he is saying that fast food establishments do not advertise enough
David Zinczenko Don T Blame The Eater
The author encourages that there are alternatives to fast food. But that point can be argued. There are not alternatives to choosing fast food over grocery shopping. Fast food restaurants are also pulling people in to go eat there for example Wendy’s and McDonald’s offer salads with fruits and nuts in it but people think that the salad is fresh. So instead of going to the market to get the food people choose fast food. People have to work but instead of packing their lunch they find getting fast food is more convenient for them to buy food there. If people don’t like to cook they will choose to go to a fast food restaurant because in their minds there is no other alternative for fast
Rhetorical Analysis Of Supersize Me
A world without fast food such as Mcdonald's, Wendy’s, Jack in the box etc would have a healthier environment. It is known that fast food is incredibly dangerous and can cause health problems, in spite of how unhealthy the food is people still tend to consume it. The film Supersize Me is a documentary in which it emphasizes the message of the risks eating fast food has, in this case it’d be Mcdonalds, it expresses the harm that could be done physically and mentally to a person. Every fast food company spends millions of dollars advertising their product, and though they know the product isn’t exactly the healthiest snack they fool people into thinking otherwise. Morgan Spurlock attempts to demonstrate the importance of eating healthy and limiting the amount of junk food consumed, he makes his claim plausible by using several different ways to attract the audience’s attention. For example, he used rhetorical strategies such as ethos,

Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity
Today life is on the fast track. People are always on the go and don’t have time to properly take care of themselves or their families. For most Americans, fast food and junk food are ready to grab for a snack or a quick dinner. They don’t slow down to think about how the foods they are eating effect their long term health. Fewer and fewer families take the time to prepare a nutritious meal and are passing down bad habits to their children. If changes are not made now, then people will soon be living shorter lives and suffer most of their life from obesity and the health issues that come with it. The Government should regulate what Americans consume in order to curb obesity rates and potentially save lives.

Persuasive Essay On School Food
Cafeteria food in schools is made to be healthy for students, but is it really healthy for students if they think it is foul and do not want to eat it? Should schools change the healthy foods to foods that students would actually want to eat? School food’s job is to be healthy and tasty to get the students through their day, but sadly school lunches tend to miss the mark on both accounts. Public schools rely on money from the government to supply food to their students, but due to several cutbacks the thing served in the cafeteria is hardly food at all. We all know the stereotypical school food mystery meat Monday or a slab of grey mush and sadly that is not too far from what it is in reality. Even with the “healthy” options most school supply is packed with harmful preservatives and chemicals that harm our youth from buying the cheapest possible edible green thing. As a country does not seem to want to invest into healthy and better futures for our young people.
Synthesis Essay On Fast Food
Most Americans in contemporary society run on an automatic default setting, not bothering to question what they attest to on an everyday basis. A monotonous routine sets in that transcends into future generations. In this current fast paced way of life it’s not difficult to fall into the trap of the unregulated food industry. The least of many concerns is to worry about a couple of unpronounceable words on the back of the cereal box one has for breakfast each morning. Many of these ingredients and their derivatives are unknown to the common shopper. Therefore, the food industry must be regulated in order to keep society aware of what they are consuming, allow for a decrease in the dependence of fast food, and to prevent and control current and future health issues tormenting the nation.
Persuasive Essay On Fast Food
See a lot of people buying fast food because how good it tastes. Well let me tell you it is not good for your health. Why do fast food places lower their prices because they know people will buy it if it doesn’t cost that much and most people buy it cause that`s how much they can afford”.
Persuasive Fast Food Essay
Fast food is quickly becoming America 's cigarette, causing more death related diseases than a packet of smokes. Take a look at the food you’re eating and what does it do to your body. ' “Parents are working more than ever before, and unable to monitor what kids are eating at home, schools are selling astronomical amounts of junk food in order to supplement shrinking budgets. It 's a ticking time bomb, and America 's children are exploding”. Food business has been one of the successful economic fields in United States. McDonald’s, KFC and Hardees are all examples of fast food companies that became well-known worldwide and they sell million meals every month, they attract teens and children mainly and they are getting addicted to it. Although fast food field has a huge profit it doesn’t mean that we should give fast food suppliers and restaurants the permission to do whatever they want. However, fast food suppliers should only care about the quality of their products not “people’s obesity”. Parents are responsible for the obesity in their children and they
Ethical Issues In Fast Food
Fast food companies have demolished competition throughout the last 30 years in the restaurant industry. The practices used to eliminate competition such as using unhealthy food to make a profit have been reported unethical by Americans, but it tends to be desired by the American society. According to the American Franchise Corporation, certified by TrustArc, fast food companies generate $570 billion annually in the United States ("Fast Food Industry Analysis"). These statistics continue to rise as more and more fast food companies become ubiquitous. As a result, fast food companies get richer, while people contract life-altering health effects. Throughout the last few decades, fast food companies have started popping out everywhere. With the

Food Trucks Vs. Restaurants Essay
There's always a battle between a sit-down restaurant and the pop-up restaurants. In today's society those pop-up restaurants are food trucks and restaurants are to their limit with them. There's been a battle of the two both business and legal. The fight is over who will get the most consumers and have the most profit at the end of the day. Restaurant owners have made countless laws to inhibit food trucks from making profit to survive, but should they be allowed to continue?
Between the licensing, food permits, insurance, and Health regulations, it can be hard running a food truck. First you have your licensing which goes from Food Service permits, food safety permit, General business permit, and mobile food license permit; all of these are also subject to change or renewal when you go from City to city or new States. These are also only if you're not seeing alcohol, there are three more for that. Then you have your insurances which you then need insurance for the food handling, the business itself, the truck and your car that you have that goes along with it, and of course the employees. Food trucks also have health regulations. Which consists of a monthly check to make sure that the truck is in Tip-Top shape. Food trucks end up having more Health regulation check-up then actual restaurants. Then last but not least you also have the regulations of where food trucks are allowed to park. These regulations depend on which city or state you're in. Most cities had a law that states that no food truck is allowed to park within 5 miles of a restaurant.
The question still stands of why restaurants don't like food trucks. A simple answer to that, is because food trucks allowed for more variety of food at a faster rate. For restaurants they typically have one style of food but food trucks are subject to change and weather. They can pick and choose what they want to sell and where to go. Being a stationary restaurant you have one set of demographics to make profit from but being a multiple restaurant you have different demographics you can pick and choose from to make the most profit. Which is what makes restaurants so angry because they are in a constant Battle of who's going to make more money and how are they going to compete. The restaurant owner simple answer create laws that prohibit food trucks from getting it on their business. The only issue is that no matter how many laws they create food trucks will still be around and today's culture wants something fast with more variety, so food trucks continue to win.
The easiest way for a food truck to be seen or noticed is definitely social media. Our Generation today spends more time on the internet and searching through their phones than anything else so why not Target them through their social media. Whether that be Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, or Snapchat. These social media tools allow food trucks to Mark where they are and where they're traveling to. There are even specific apps that allow you to track food trucks and where they're going to be at or events to go to for food trucks. Sure you can look up a restaurant where it's going to be, but it won't be the same finding five food trucks with five different types of food in the same area.
The battle continues everyday between a restaurant and a pop-up restaurant but there shouldn't be. There are enough laws and regulations per city and state that allow both pop-up restaurants and sit down restaurants to still make profit and survive with today's culture. The constant need to inhibit food trucks from making money is it necessary anymore, but casual competition is always good for business both ways.

Compare And Contrast Twyla And Roberta In Recitatif
Maggie a girl of the streets.
Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, a novella written in 1893 by Stephen Crane, focuses on a poverty stricken family living in the Bowery district of New York City. This novella is regarded as one of the first works of naturalism in American literature and it helped shape the naturalistic principle that a character is set into a world where there is no escape from one’s biological heredity and the circumstances that the characters find themselves in will dominate their behavior and deprive them of individual responsibility. Throughout the story, the primary goal of the main characters is to escape the lives they lead and to find more comfortable lives away from their current problems, which differs from the romantic ideal that the main characters usually turn inwards to solve their problems.
Twyla and Roberta´s Friendship in Toni Morrison’s Recititaf Essay
Friendships tend to change over time, for better or worse. This is illustrated in Toni Morrison’s short story Recititaf. The relationships of Twyla and Roberta are a rollercoaster from the moment they meet at the orphanage, to their confrontational meeting at the Howard Johnsons, to the picketing during segregation, until the end when they try and sort things out. One of the ways to show the rocky relationship of the two is through their dialog when they discuss their mothers.
Essay Maggie Character Analysis from "Everyday Use"
Maggie was so traumatized from her house burning down that she became a timid and under appreciated little girl. Maggie is so self conscious that her mom says she walks like a dog run over by a car: “chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle, ever since the fire that burned the other house to the ground.” This

Literary Analysis Of Recitatif
Throughout the short story, Twyla and Roberta have multiple encounters after they are old enough to leave the shelter. In the first scene, Twyla is a cashier at a restaurant as Roberta visits with a few friends. As Twyla approaches Roberta, she attempts to have a conversation to catchup with each other. Roberta presents herself as snobby as her mother was, and laughs at her when mentioning a famous singer Twyla does not know. As years pass by, they run into one another in line at a grocery store. This time, Roberta greets Twyla to engage the conversation. As they talk, the event of Roberta acting snobby at the restaurant is brought up by Twyla. Roberta’s response was “you know how it was in those days: black-white”. As Roberta seems much friendlier, “those days” appear to be over, as they exchange phone numbers before departing.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation that has forced you to act out of character? Then, after the situation it occurred you, that you could have acted differently? Well, in Toni Morrison’s “Recitatif,” the main characters Roberta and Twyla continually run into each other in completely different situations, causing them to behave differently each and every time. Roberta and Twyla’s changing environments caused them to react in unexpected ways, as well as compelling them to acknowledge each other differently, and consequently forcing them to end on different terms after each situation.
The Identity Of Twyla And Roberta Essay
During the course of the narrative Twyla describes her on and off again relationship with Roberta. The girls first meet during their short stay at St. Bonnie’s, which was an orphanage, they both were 8 years old. Neither of the girls were real orphans, and because of this they were alienated from the other girls, and they became friends real fast. Twyla’s mother is assumed to be a stripper, while Roberta’s mother was much too sick to care for her.
Comparisson of Mother Tounge and Everyday Use
In Alice Walker's “Everyday Use” she uses a tactic to set a mood for the reader by bringing in the character Maggie. Walker's use of language when describing Maggie creates a picture of a physically scarred and unintelligent girl. Maggie's physical scarring is pointed out
Opera of Power: Recitatif by Toni Morrison

The later meetings characterize the relationships of the women based on who is deemed more successful by society. Twyla’s resentment about Roberta’s treatment of her upon their second meeting and her elevated economic status upon the third, delineates Twyla’s frustration at being moved to a
Everyday Use Summary
Mama, the narrator of the story, sits in her yard that was cleaned by her and her daughter Maggie to await the arrival of her other daughter, Dee. Mama already knows that Maggie is going to be uncomfortable throughout Dee's stay because of Maggie's embarrassment of her own scars and Dee's better life. Mama thinks about her and Dee being on a television show together. One where Mama is brought on stage with Dee, who has her eyes full of tears, while Dee hugs her and thanks her for her success in life as she pins orchids on her dress. Mama could not bear the though of looking a white man in the eyes though she knew Dee would be able to do it with no problem. Mama is taken out of her fantasy by Maggie walking through the house to ask her how she
Summary Of Alzheimer's Disease By Elizabeth Cohen
In 1998, Elizabeth Cohen’s father had come down with a sever case of Alzheimer’s. Her mother would call and conference with her and her sister, telling them of his rapid degeneration. The way she describes her parents’ love story was almost fairytale-like. They ate together, laughed together, and so on. Everything was perfect except for one thing; her mother hated kids. Elizabeth had, what she describes to be, a vexing and confusing childhood. Her mother kept her at bay from her father, and mother seemed to merely put up with her kids rather than take motherly care of them. Elizabeth’s dad or “Daddy” had been
The Dark Matter Of Love: The Diaz Family
At first, the parents had an idealized view of how their life would be with the children because they had been in the process of adopting for a very long time. However, when they started their lives together they learned that is was
The Racial Prejudice By Morrison 's Black Matters
Maggie’s racial ambiguity from the start of “Recitatif”, forces a racialized response from the reader to understand the end of the narrative as well as ethically examining Twyla and Roberta. One of the first descriptions of Maggie is that she is “She was old and sandy-colored” is the constant state of her racialization as neither Twyla and Roberta can determine her race (Recitatif 2). Likewise, throughout “Recitatif”, Twyla and Roberta both debate on Maggie’s race with Twyla saying, “Maggie wasn 't black” and Roberta asserting, “You kicked a black lady who couldn 't even scream" (16). But these arguments between
Themes In Recitatif
She enhances her theme through the manipulation of plot and the use of women as her central character. Morrison proves the notion that women are effective character in depicting theme that deal with the social issue of craving material wealth. Also the role of the social class in the story is the issue of class separation and struggle, though they may appear at first glance to be unimportant, but they are in fact the central points around which the story revolves. Class differences affect the ways in which the characters interact with one another. Nowhere in the story "Recitatif" is this more apparent than in the meeting between Roberta and Twyla's mothers at the orphanage. Twyla describes Roberta's mother as tall, prim, and proper. She adds, "and on her chest was the biggest cross I'd ever seen" (pp. 999). In direct contrast to this is the image of Twyla's mother, a woman who wears revealing pants and a ragged old jacket and curses in church. The authors successfully communicate to the readers their belief that, no matter how hard we might try to avoid it, class is indeed a major factor in today's
Toni Morrison's Recitatif-We Or You, And Me?
Twyla is a waitress and Roberta is a customer. Twyla fails to understand Roberta and her friends there as their lifestyles differ, perhaps there is also a difference in social class as Roberta can afford to travel around the country. The class dissimilarity becomes visible when they meet in a newly open grocery store. Twyla does not manage to understand that the man in the car is Roberta’s chauffeur. In their conversation they reach to a point where they disagree on the story of their stay in the orphanage. Again, the theme of difference related to their experience emerges and blocks communication. Also, the theme of racial divide is evoked in relation to Roberta’s indifference during the previous meeting in the restaurant. Twyla, however, could not observe the racial divide around
Morals And Values In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Another social difference Walker uses to illustrate a disconnection within the family is education. Mama only has second-grade education due to her school burning down and never getting rebuilt. Mama explains how Maggie has a hard time reading and “knows

Compare and Contrast Luther and Calvin

Compare and Contrast Martin Luther and John Calvin. Martin Luther and John Calvin were both very important leaders of the Protestant Reformation. Although they were both against the Roman Catholic Church, they brought about very different ideas in religion. Martin Luther founded the group that are today known as Lutherans. He was ordained a priest in 1507. He dealt with questions dealing with the structure of the church and with its moral values. These questions were important in Luther’s eyes, but the most important was how to find favor with God.
Luther tried to pray, fast, and repent, but he never felt self-satisfaction.
He eventually concluded that God’s love was not a prize or a reward to be earned or won, but a gift to be accepted. Luther further concluded that until man stops trying to achieve God’s favor through his own achievements he cannot truly understand God’s grace. Luther also had the idea that one did not need a priest to talk to God, he believed that one could pray and repent without the help of anyone else.

“ KarrieWrites did such a phenomenal job on this assignment! He completed it prior to its deadline and was thorough and informative. ”
This was the idea for which Luther became famous. In 1517, Luther was involved in a controversy which involved indulgences. Indulgences were the idea that a person could donate money to a worthy cause in exchange for forgiveness of their sins. Luther opposed this idea and stated his beliefs in his Ninety-Five Thesis, which he posted on the castle door in Wittenberg, Germany. In 1519, Luther had a debate in Leipzig with Johann Eck, a Roman Catholic theologian.

During this debate, Luther denied the supremacy of the Pope and stated that church councils could make mistakes. In 1521, Luther was excommunicated by Pope Leo X. Luther was then ordered to appear before a council which demanded that he retract his teachings. Luther intern stated that unless he was inspired to do so by scripture he would not since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. Possible the most important contribution of Luther to society was his translation of the Bible into German. This made it possible for those who were not fluent in Greek to study the Word of God. Luther also wrote another influential work, Small Catechism of 1529, which was also known as the layman’s Bible. It summarized Christian beliefs into clear, simple language and told how they should live.
During the Reformation, Luther discovered that he had founded a new church. He complained that his name should not be given to a group whose name should only be taken from Christ; but Lutherans still believe in the doctrines he originated. John Calvin teachings were especially influential inSwitzerland, England, Scotland, and colonial North America. Calvin’s followers in France were known as the Huguenots, and in England they were know as the Puritans. During the Reformation, the people were insisting that anyone, not just the hierarchy, be involved in political and religious policy making. This inspired Calvin’s teachings. The Calvinists developed political theories that supported constitutional government, representative government, the right of people to change their government, and the separation of civil and church government. The Calvanists originally intended these ideas to apply to the aristocracy, but democracy eventually arose in England and America. Calvin’s basic religious beliefs were the superiority of faith over good works, universal priesthood of all believers, and the Bible as the basis of all Christian teachings.
The concept of universal priesthood was that all believers were considered priests. This was unlike the Roman Catholic Church which had various ranks of priests. Calvin also believed that men could only be saved by the grace of God. He believed that only the Elect would be saved and that no one knew who the Elect were. He also believed in Predestination, which is the idea that your entire life is already planned for you. Many of Calvin’s ideas were controversial, but he improved the morals of the Church drastically. Calvin developed the pattern of church government that is today known as Presbyterian. Martin Luther and John Calvin achieved great results, but went about it in different ways. Luther was more concerned with his own spirituality, and therefore set an example by changing himself. Calvin on the other hand, was more concerned with changing society and the government. They both believed in being saved through God’s grace, but Calvin believed in Predestination and the Elect. Martin Luther and John Calvin were both key assets Protestant Reformation.
