10 Great Essay Writing Tips

Knowing how to write a college essay is a useful skill for anyone who plans to go to college. Most colleges and universities ask you to submit a writing sample with your application. As a student, you’ll also write essays in your courses. Impress your professors with your knowledge and skill by using these great essay writing tips.
Prepare to Answer the Question
Most college essays ask you to answer a question or synthesize information you learned in class. Review notes you have from lectures, read the recommended texts and make sure you understand the topic. You should refer to these sources in your essay.

Plan Your Essay
Many students see planning as a waste of time, but it actually saves you time. Take a few minutes to think about the topic and what you want to say about it. You can write an outline, draw a chart or use a graphic organizer to arrange your ideas. This gives you a chance to spot problems in your ideas before you spend time writing out the paragraphs.
Choose a Writing Method That Feels Comfortable
You might have to type your essay before turning it in, but that doesn’t mean you have to write it that way. Some people find it easy to write out their ideas by hand. Others prefer typing in a word processor where they can erase and rewrite as needed. Find the one that works best for you and stick with it.

View It as a Conversation
Writing is a form of communication, so think of your essay as a conversation between you and the reader. Think about your response to the source material and the topic. Decide what you want to tell the reader about the topic. Then, stay focused on your response as you write.

Provide the Context in the Introduction
If you look at an example of an essay introduction, you’ll see that the best essays give the reader a context. Think of how you introduce two people to each other. You share the details you think they will find most interesting. Do this in your essay by stating what it’s about and then telling readers what the issue is.

Explain What Needs to be Explained
Sometimes you have to explain concepts or define words to help the reader understand your viewpoint. You also have to explain the reasoning behind your ideas. For example, it’s not enough to write that your greatest achievement is running an ultra marathon. You might need to define ultra marathon and explain why finishing the race is such an accomplishment.

Answer All the Questions
After you finish writing the first draft of your essay, make sure you’ve answered all the questions you were supposed to answer. For example, essays in compare and contrast format should show the similarities and differences between ideas, objects or events. If you’re writing about a significant achievement, describe what you did and how it affected you.

Stay Focused as You Write
Writing requires concentration. Find a place where you have few distractions and give yourself time to write without interruptions. Don’t wait until the night before the essay is due to start working on it.

Read the Essay Aloud to Proofread
When you finish writing your essay, read it aloud. You can do this by yourself or ask someone to listen to you read it. You’ll notice places where the ideas don’t make sense, and your listener can give you feedback about your ideas.

Avoid Filling the Page with Words
A great essay does more than follow an essay layout. It has something to say. Sometimes students panic and write everything they know about a topic or summarize everything in the source material. Your job as a writer is to show why this information is important.

Types of friends.
Human beings are social animals. Most of us usually have numerous friends because we need friends not only to have an enjoyable life but also to grow as individuals. Our friends share our sorrows and joys and they help us better understand ourselves. Not all friendships are created equal because we form friendships with others for a variety of reasons. It may be appropriate to classify our friends into three groups, i.e. acquaintances, social friends, and best friends. Acquaintances are friends we just happen to know in life. They may be our school fellows, our work colleagues, our neighbors, or just someone we met in a social setting. Our interactions with acquaintances are often formal and short. We may know basic details about them but we tend to avoid learning about their more personal matters. It could be argued that the acquaintances are the weakest form of friendship, and we make very little, if any, emotional investment in this form of friendship. The circle of acquaintances is usually the biggest among all types of friends because we simply tend to know lot more people than those we interact with on a regular basis such as social friends and best friends.

The second type of friends is social friends. The social friends could be defined as people whose company we enjoy. We may spend lot of time with them and we may know more about them than we know about acquaintances, but we usually avoid discussions about more personal issues unless given a signal or permission. Social friends have the potential to become one of our best friends over time but such friendships are not initially built on deep trust as much as they are built on common interests or shared social lifestyles. Our relationship with social friends is usually of higher quality than our relationship with acquaintances.
The third type of friendship is best friends. Our relationship with best friends is the deepest among all types of friends. We may share our deepest concerns and secrets with best friends that we may not share with social friends or acquaintances. Our best friends also have the most influence over us among all types of friends because we trust them. The circle of best friends tends to be the smallest among all types of friends because there are only so many people we can trust on a deep personal level. It is not uncommon for us to invest years in best friendships because longer time periods enable us to know people better.
We are social animals which may explain the presence of friends in our lives. The friends can be divided into three main categories which are acquaintances, social friends, and best friends. Acquaintances are people we happen to know, social friends are people whose company we enjoy, and best friends are people who have earned our trust. The circle of acquaintances tends to be the biggest for many people while the circle of best friends tends to be the smallest.

Classification Essay: Three Types of Friends
In life we come across many people. Some will hate us while others will adore us. The ones who hate us can be referred to as enemies and the ones who show us adoration are referred to as friends. There are three types of friends. They are the aquaintinces we make in school, the friends we loose as one grows, and best friends who may stray, but never too far away. First of all, there are those friends that are only seen in school. Seeing them on the street is like they are not even there. One may have known them throughout their whole school career, but have never talked to them outside of school. These school aqquaintinces are nice people to talk to , but there is never an effort to do anything more than that. These friends are good because there are never any chances to take with them. One just talks to them and then they go on their merry way. These school aqquaintinces are the peopl who are talked to about different hoobies and class studies. Not ones personal life. School aquaitnices are the people that one will not see for the first time until the schools ten year reunion . Second, there are former friends. These are the ones taht grew up in ones neighborhood and moved away. These are the friends who will bring back memories that people thoght were forgotten. One might be embarassed at first about seeing their former friend, but as soon as conversation begins all the embarassement will be a thing of the past. Former friends are the ones that little secrets about meaqningless ideas were told to as a child, or the person who spent countlerss nights at ones house sleeping over. These are the people that knew ones parents very well, almost as well as the friend was known. Tehen all of a sudden out of nowhere this former friend is never spoken again to for years. Former friends give a sense of oldness to a person. In the long run they are good to have and to talk to. Finally, there are best friends who are the people that have been known all their lives or even just a few years. These friends regardless male or female can talk to a friend about anything on their mind. Many experiences have occured between two best friends or even a group of best friends. These kinds of friends share a common bnd that will last forever. Intimate secrets and special favors are all traits in which best friends can rely on each other for.

EEAnyone who has spent time with friends will notice that each one has a special personality all of their own. Friends, have different traits that make up their personalities. A sense of humor, great advice, and honesty are all things that come to mind when you think about a friend. Friends are important to have because they are a backbone when things get tough in life and are always there to love and support. However, anyone who has spent time with friends will notice that each one has a special personality with respect to their honesty, loyalty, and care.
There are three major types of friends, which are acquaintances, social friends, and best friends.
The first type of friend is simply an acquaintance. This means that you basically only know their name. Not even remembering what they look like. You usually meet these type of friends in school, at work, on the bus, in the gym, or anywhere else you might be.

Proficient in: Friend
“ Very hands-on writer. This writer followed my instructions to match the criteria for my assignment. ”
You normally would not mind having a cup of coffee with them, but if anything else came up, you would have no problem parting company. We see many people in the work. Sometimes we speak them compulsorily and we don’t remember even their face. While we are on the bus, we come across some people who get on the bus regulars like us. Therefore we call them as an acquaintance. Someone you know socially or through the business world would be called an acquaintance if you don’t know them well personally.

An acquaintance can remain a personal or business contact for you or can become a friend at some point. It depends on the relationship and the people involved. You may have some acquaintances you see over and over throughout your life that you never really get to know. However, they are still good people to know because they can connect you to potential friends. This group includes people who one talks to out of awkward obligation. Observed in their natural habitats of classrooms, bus seats, and the general public acquaintances are random encounters. A person often speaks to this species out of necessity, loneliness, or boredom. For instance, when a person is alone in the bus station with nothing to do, they see a person reading a magazine and decide to make conversation about that magazine. This is not done to bother the other person, and usually both people don’t care but it’s a tool to make a person feel less alone. This sect of friends does not evolve past a random encounter or conversation. Acquaintances include people who one exploits for their own personal gain.
The second category of friends is a social partner. One you often meet at social occasions, or one who may accompany you to social gatherings, but with whom you don’t have a personal relationship. This is because they are closer than acquaintances, but nowhere near as close as a true friend. Social partners are usually acquaintances who evolve into “guest friends” through increased extracurricular activities. You know their name, a little of what they like or dislike, a little of their family history, and usually have several things in common. As the saying goes, “Birds of a feather flock together,” so too the social partners have to have several things in common with you. No one is going to want to spend any more time than necessary with somebody completely opposite and aggravating to him.
Social friends are closer than acquaintances, but nowhere near as close as a true friend. You know much more about each other than you would as mere acquaintances, but much less than if you were personal friends.
The last type of friend is the “best friend.” Normally, you know them the longest and you probably grew up together as children. He or she knows everything about you. Likewise, you know everything about him or her. They are basically like family. You would have no problem if they spent the night at your house. You know each other’s habits and can always tell when there is something wrong. You would not hesitate to share your deepest feelings or thoughts with them. A best friend has no problem correcting you when you are wrong, or being stern with you when you are out of line. They will see you through when others see that you are through.
He/she will always be there for you. They are not perfect, but at least they will always look out for you and never do anything intentionally to hurt you. They are there to find national solutions to the many unexpected problems that life presents for us. “Best friends” are very important to us, because we share with them something which are secrets things that have not be known by anybody. They are very generous people. For example, when we have not enough money, they lend us. When we fall into bad condition, they cheer us up. They support us.
In conclusion; we always meet people and classify them in terms of their personalities. There are three types of friends. The first type of friends is simply an acquaintance. The second is the social friend. Finally the best friends. We will always encounter those types of friends in our lives. Every friend has a different type of character. Some friends are helpful while some friends are caring. No matter what traits they have as long as we interest and comfort each other. Friends caneither make or break us.

July 24, 2022 by Prasanna
Classification Essay About Friends: “Humans are Social Animals”. You may have heard the saying “Humans are social animals” by now. And this is quite true – the very foundation of society is based on human interaction. From an anthropological perspective, human beings are a social species that strongly relies on cooperation between other members of the same species to thrive and survive. Right from birth, infants are exposed to other humans, and without their care, may perish. As infants grow older, they learn by interaction with other humans. The same is true as we grow through various stages in our life. Sometimes, we prefer the company of certain people (excluding family), such individuals are our “friends”. However, friends are just one part of our social circle.
One of the ways to classify people you interact with (excluding family) is as follows:
- Acquaintances: – People you know, but are not quite close to.
- Social friends: – People who you know quite well and you enjoy being around.
- Best friends: – People who you know very well and have a considerably long history.
In this article, we shall explore essays about friends, friend circles, and also its classification. Moreover, we can also explore important writing guidelines and other crucial aspects of writing an essay.
You can also find more Essay Writing articles on events, persons, sports, technology and many more.
Classification Essay About Friends Guidelines
Following are basic guidelines to be followed when drafting an essay. Doing so will help you create a well-structured and neatly presented essay.
- Do your research. A good essay will require you to present as many facts as possible.
- Prepare an outline for your essay. This will help you structure your essay effectively
- Ensure that you split your essay into sections or segments – introduction, body, conclusion (you can add other sections if deemed necessary)
- Ensure that you use formal language. Avoid slang and jargons as these might make the essay seem unprofessional.
- Be as articulate as you can, expressing your views as clearly as possible. However, avoid redundancy – where you express the same idea or point more than once.
- Lastly, ensure that you proofread your essay for grammatical errors and factual accuracy.
- If you are writing an essay for your exam, ensure that you allot a certain amount of time for every section of your essay – this will ensure that you can finish the essay on time.
Sample Essay on Friends Classification 500 Words in English
Society works on human interaction. We are a social species that rely on other individuals for our success. This includes day-to-day interactions to large-scale global events. When communication between individuals does not happen, it can result in many implications, most of which might have detrimental effects. Moreover, human behaviour is molded around human interaction – with kids learning aspects of social behaviour from other kids.
This brings us to the concept of friendship. The term “friends” is an umbrella term that is used to describe many relationships. We shall explore the most basic ones in this essay:
- Acquaintances
- Social Friends
- Best Friends
Acquaintances are individuals who we often know in a social setting. Interaction with such individuals are limited and are often formal and brief. Moreover, the level of emotional investment is also quite minimum – as we usually tend to know only basic information about acquaintances. Examples of acquaintances include neighbours that live down the street, colleagues at work, fellow schoolmates etc.
Social friends are people whose company we tend to enjoy. We usually spend more time with such individuals and also tend to know more about them. Such relationships are formed as a result of common interests or shared social lives. However, we usually tend to avoid discussing personal issues with our social friends. Examples of social friends include school/college friends or individuals who live around your neighbourhood.
Best friends are individuals with whom we share our deepest concerns and personal information. They hold a level of trust far greater than any of the other types of friendship. Moreover, best friends have the potential to influence our decisions. Such relationships are also long-running, often throughout an individual pre-teen and teenage life. Moreover, our greatest emotional investment is usually in best friends. Usually, as people grow older, their social circles may shrink due to new commitments, such as marriage, having kids etc. However, we always ensure that we are in touch with best friends even if we cease interaction with other types of friends. A best friend can potentially be anyone you know – but usually, individuals from your social friend circles are more likely to become best friends.
Human interaction is the key to our survival as a species. It affects many aspects of our lives – from learning basic skills to decision making. When communication and interaction ceases, humans are no different from other animals. Over the course of many millenia, our species has developed complex social relationships, which is currently a driving factor for a healthy society. For example, prisoners who are required to reform behaviourally (as a punishment) are frequently put in solitary confinement – a special type of jail cell that does not allow inmates to socialize or bond with other inmates. According to some sociologists, such treatments can make a person mentally unstable and may induce mental illnesses. Introverts are people who usually avoid most forms of social interaction – but even such individuals will need to communicate with other people to preserve their sanity. Regardless, “friends” are people that we interact with, either through circumstances (education, career) or through affinity (fondness and affection).

These technologies take away from face-to-face connections and cause them to become dispassionate. Abraham Lincoln Research Paper
Whether past or present, our friends have shaped us to who we are today. We are even the product of the friends who are no longer our friends. Also, our friends can give us vital life skills. There are many perks of having friends for example, they sharpen our mind, friends make us generally happier, they help us knowing ourselves better, they support us in advancing our career, friends help us meet romantic partners and they make us living a longer and healthier life. Another important aspect is that childhood friendships start our learning process. Early friendships play a vital role because they occur while key developmental changes are taking place. They help teach us some of those important life skills but also shape our life “narrative.” Teen friendships help us shape later romantic bonds. Though parents spend much of their time worrying about who their teenage kids are with, these relationships are a training ground for the later long-term bonds that will evolve through adulthood. It is important to know that people are less lonely when they have friends. Loneliness is painful, especially when

Friends Classification 5 Pages 1171 Words
There is nothing more natural than having friends. Everyone in the world has millions of friends, and most people can't count their friends on two hands. Friends are important to have because they are a backbone when things get tough in life, and are always there for love and support. With all the friends that we have you would think that it would be hard to distinguish between different types of friends, but that is not the case. We can identify our best friend, our acquaintances, our teammates, and our mutual friends. However, what is friendship, and does it change with each different group of friends? Friendship is difficult to define, and with every group there are different ways of acting. Friendship means different things to different people. A friend is one whom is attached to another by affection or esteem. A friend is a person with whom we tend to feel more relaxed, open, and equal. There is some sort of a bond that is held together by positive feelings and history. All our different group of friends are important to have, and all have their special meaning to us. A best friend is someone whom you can tell everything to, and it is usually someone that you hang out with all the time. Your best friend knows every secret about you, and can predict what you're going to do or think before you do or think it. You hang out in the same group of friends, and have a lot in common. You can feed off one another's personality traits, and even finish each other sentences. Without the other person around you begin to feel incomplete, and are constantly making plans for the next time you two will be together. A prime example is the relationship with my best friend, Mari. We have known each other since we were in the fourth grade, and we have gone through everything together. We were there for each other when we had our first boyfriends, had our f ...

An acquaintance is someone whose name you know, who you see every now and then, who you probably have something in common with and who you feel comfortable around (Hein and Hugh, 2004). Acquaintances could be friends that you might have met them during your academic carrier but you might have never talked to them outside school. These school acquaintances are nice people to talk to, but there is never an effort to do anything more than that and they go their way but you a times meet with them. They form important part you in life. These friends are good because you just talk to them and then they go on their merry way.
These acquaintances are the people who you can invite them into your home and share things with them but they are people you cannot share your personal life with. They are friends whose actions you may not understand well because you don’t know much about them. You normally don’t miss them when they are elsewhere. It is also this type of friends that give you the most amount of aggravation. Since most of the time you are placed in a position where you have to act friendly, such as school or workplace, you would not normally tell an acquaintance when he or she is doing something funny, this is why (Hein and Hugh, 2004) refer to this type of friends as “pest friends.”
The second category is the guest friend. These are social friends. They are friends you interact for social purpose. They don’t have much impact on our lives but you become friends to them to gain one or two things from them. They are friends whom you meet in clubs or when carrying your business or even in the field while doing some extra curricula activities like playing football or athletics. They are friends who knows you only for a reason and don’t have much impact on your life. Keep in mind that guest friends, usually you don’t converse about anything substantial or deep such as their desires or fears. Usually this kind of friends toy to keep the topic of conversation happy and light. You still enjoy going/hanging with them but when the tough gets going they are not there for you.
Lastly the most vital group of friends are the best friends. The best friend is someone you love. Not that you are “in love” with, but you care about them and you think about them when they are not there (Hein and Hugh, 2004). A best friend is someone you can trust not only with huge things even the little things as well. Someone whom you know he will always be there for you through kick and thin and will never betray you. Someone who is closer than your family and you can tell anything to. A best friend is someone who you can go without talking to for long periods of time but when you finally do talk it is just like the last time yell spoke. A best friend is supportive and compassionate. A best friend is someone who will not always tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to hear. They are someone who is honest, but gentle and can spare feeling with telling a lie. Most importantly they are people who will be there for you forever and will comfort you when you are hurt and made mistakes.

Which Essay Is Better: a Narrative or a Descriptive?
...Which Essay is Better: A Narrative or A Descriptive? Ever read a story and say to yourself, “What’s happening?” Whenever I read a descriptive essay, that’s what I would say. In this essay I would be comparing and contrasting two types of essays, a narrative and descriptive. I have chosen “Are the rich happy?” by Stephen Leacock 1916 and “Sister Flowers” by Maya Angelou, n.d. By writing my essay, I want to give my views on each and decide which I would rather write. Narrative Essay A narrative essay reflects a personal opinion that is based on your own experiences. This helps you bring a reader into your very own mind and shows him/her the topic you’re writing about through your eyes. Telling a story or event the way it happened for you. It also could provide a sort of lesson or moral to be learned from the outcome of the story as well as what the writer did that contributed to it or not. It’s more on a personal level that any one reading could say that happened to them or that they learned from the story by not doing whatever it was that the writer did. In Stephen Leacock’s “Are the Rich Happy?” the author writes about his experiences with his friends, with of modest income. Most of it, all in his opinion, points out the problems or troubles those with an existential amount of funds in their bank accounts. He goes on to give some examples that he encountered several of his friends going through. “A friend of mine who has ten thousand dollars a year told me the......

When the story starts and we first see Romeo he seems very sad about his "break up" with Rosalin (1.2 166-244). In this scene we found Romeo sitting alone and when Benvolio goes to talk......

Enkidu not only serves as a friend, but also a loving brother, a soul mate and a mirror of Gilgamesh. However; this relationship is more than just a bond between friends. Enkidu's life and death serve a great purpose as a catalyst for Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is deeply affected by Enkidu and this is primarily because of the strength of their relationship. Anne Kelly cites Aristotle when defining this bond as a true friendship. Aristotle believed in four types of friendships. First, a friendship of utility. This is based on what the friends can gain from each other. Second, a friendship of pleasure, which is based on the pleasure gained from each other. This type involves love and trust between equals. (Kelly, 1) The relationship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu is a good example of the fourth type of friendship. At first, they are not friends at all. Enkidu was created as a test for Gilgamesh. Once this trial is overcome, their bond slowly starts to build. Kelly goes on to state that Aristotle......

The Pleasure Scale
...Tiffany Houpt Professor Habbestad English 104 2 December 2013 The Pleasure Scale As we go through life we will experience different events that will help shape the scales that we use in life. Biss talks about how pain is our own experience and no one else can feel the same intensity of pain that we feel at any given point in the day. I believe that it can also be turned around no one can feel the same type of pleasure that I feel. There is no way that I can write a scale of pleasure that fits every person that is on the earth; the only scale that I can make is one where I use the pleasure that have happened to me during my life time. As we age we tend to go through events that will change our outlook on life. Something that may have been a pleasure to us when we were younger may not be pleasure to use when we are older. Take for instance playing on the playground as a young child, that was to time of the day we all waited for we got to go outside and play on the jungle gym. That would not bring me pleasure it would make me depressed just for the fact that I can no longer play on the jungle gym because I am not small enough to enjoy to the level that I would want to. 0 Imagine a world where there is no such thing as pain. Now that you have done that do you think that there would be pleasure in that world? If there is no pain there can be no pleasure they go hand in hand. If you have never felt pain then how can you know what pleasure is? Biss talks about how there is......
