Personality development in hindi – व्यक्तित्व साक्षात्कार की सफलता में प्रत्याशी के व्यक्तित्व की प्रमुख भूमिका होती है। प्रायः यह देखा जाता है कि प्रत्याशी अपने विषय से सम्बन्धित पुस्तकों, सामान्य ज्ञान आदि के अध्ययन पर ही ध्यान केन्द्रित रखते हैं।
अपने व्यक्तित्व विकास की ओर पर्याप्त रूप से ध्यान नहीं देते. जबकि प्रत्याशी का व्यक्तित्व अन्तिम रूप से किसी पद पर चयन होने में बौद्धिक क्षमता एवं विषय-ज्ञान के समान ही महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है। यह सर्वमान्य सत्य है कि प्रत्याशी द्वारा साक्षात्कार के समय स्वयं को प्रस्तुत करने का प्रभावशाली ढंग ही साक्षात्कार में सफलता दिलाता है।

व्यक्तित्व क्या है? – Personality व्यक्तित्व को किसी एक परिभाषा में बाँधना कठिन कार्य है। यह व्यक्ति के विचारो, भावनाओं, व्यवहार, दृष्टिकोण, पहनावा आदि का एक ऐसा अद्भुत संगम होता है, जो अन्य लोगों के साथ उसकी अन्तः क्रिया के समय स्पष्ट रूप से झलकता है। व्यक्तित्व में पैतृक रूप से प्राप्त व्यावहारिक गुणों के साथ-साथ अर्जित व्यावहारिक गुण भी सम्मिलित रहते हैं। इन्हीं गुणों के आधार पर प्रत्येक व्यक्ति दूसरे से अलग पहचाना जाता है।

1- नेतृत्व का गुण leadership quality.
नेतृत्व किसी भी मानवीय क्रियाकलाप की सफलता के लिए मूलभूत आवश्यकता है। नेतृत्व वह कला या प्रक्रिया है जिसके द्वारा व्यक्ति किसी समूह के लोगों को लक्ष्य की ओर बढ़ने की प्रेरणा प्रदान करता है। नेतृत्व के लिए व्यक्ति में ऊर्जा, लोगों को समझने और उन्हें प्रोत्साहित करने की योग्यता, नेता के समान आगे बढ़कर कार्य करने की योग्यता जैसे गुणों का होना आवश्यक है। साक्षात्कार में सफलता हेतु प्रत्याशी में नेतृत्व सम्बन्धी निम्नलिखित गुण होने अनिवार्य हैं.
(I) समूह को प्रभावित करने की क्षमता Ability to Influence on the Group- Personality development in hindi
जीवन में सफलता इस बात पर निर्भर करती है कि लोगों के विचारों को हम अपने अनुरूप किस सीमा तक परिवर्तित कर सकते हैं। लोगों के व्यवहार की दिशा अपने अनुसार निश्चित करना एक कठिन चुनौती है, जिसका हम बहुधा अपने दैनिक जीवन में सामना करते हैं। समूह के व्यवहार परिवर्तन की बात तो दूर, अपने परिवार के ही किसी सदस्य के व्यवहार को अपने अनुसार परिवर्तित करना कठिन होता है। परन्तु एक नेता में यह गुण होना चाहिए कि वह लोगों की सोच को सही दिशा में परिवर्तित कर सके। वकील, राजनेता, उपदेशक इस कला में निपुण होते हैं और वे सरलता से लोगों को अपने विचारों या दर्शन के प्रवाह में बहा ले जाते हैं। गाँधीजी में लोगों के विचारों को अपने अनुरूप ढालने की चमत्कारिक क्षमता थी। इसी कारण देशवासी उनकी एक आवाज पर उनके पीछे चल पड़ते थे।
(ii) पहल करने की योग्यता Ability to initiate
साक्षात्कार मण्डल प्रत्याशी की पहल करने की योग्यता का आकलन करता है। वह निरीक्षण करता है कि प्रत्याशी में किसी कार्य को अपनी ओर से प्रारम्भ करने की क्षमता है अथवा नहीं। प्रत्याशी नई-नई परिस्थितियों में सामान्य रूप से कार्य करने के योग्य है अथवा नहीं।
प्रायः व्यक्ति के जीवन में अचानक ऐसी समस्याएँ आ खड़ी होती हैं, जिनसे न तो वह पूर्व-परिचित होता है और न ही उसे उन समस्याओं से निपटने का अनुभव होता है। ऐसे समय में यदि कोई व्यक्ति समस्या के समाधान हेतु स्वयं ही उपाय खोजकर लक्ष्य-प्राप्ति हेतु कार्य प्रारम्भ कर देता है तो कहा जाता है कि उसमें पहल करने की क्षमता है। इसके विपरीत जो व्यक्ति समस्या उत्पन्न होने पर दूसरों की सहायता की प्रतीक्षा करता है, उसमें पहल करने की क्षमता नहीं होती। जिन लोगों में पहल करने की उच्च क्षमता होती है, वे नया व उपयुक्त कदम उठाकर किसी समस्या अथवा कठिन परिस्थिति का सफलतापूर्वक सामना कर लेते हैं।
पहल की योग्यता एक अर्जित गुण है जो कि अनुकूल वातावरण में विकसित होता है। बाल्यकाल में इस प्रकार का वातावरण उपलब्ध कराना माता-पिता और अध्यापकों का दायित्व होता है। वे बच्चों में पहल करने की योग्यता की वृद्धि और विकास में महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं। वे इस योग्यता को विकसित अथवा अवरुद्ध कर सकते हैं। किसी समस्या के आने पर बच्चों को सोच-विचार करने का अवसर न देकर स्वयं उसकी निराकरण कर देना उसकी पहल की योग्यता के विकास को अवरुद्ध करना है। बच्चों पर किसी कार्य को करने का स्वतन्त्र भार डालने से उनकी पहल की योग्यता का विकास होता है। प्रोत्साहन और प्रशंसा भी इस गुण के विकास में सहायक हैं। प्रत्याशियों के लिए यह आवश्यक है कि वे झिझक का त्याग करके दिन-प्रतिदिन के जीवन में प्रत्येक कार्य में पहल करने की आदत डालने का प्रयास करें।
(ii) साहस Courage
साहस नेतृत्व का प्रमुख गुण है। साहसी व्यक्ति ही किसी समूह का सफल नेतृत्व कर सकता है। जो व्यक्ति प्रतिकूल परिस्थतियों से घबराकर साहस खो देता है वह नेतृत्व नहीं कर सकता। साक्षात्कार मण्डल, प्रत्याशी में साहस का परीक्षण करने के प्रश्न करके यह देखता है कि प्रतिकूल परिस्थिति से घबराकर प्रत्याशी कहीं साहस तो नहीं खो देता।
अतः यह आवश्यक है कि प्रत्याशी अपने अन्दर साहस को विकसित करें। विद्यालय स्तर पर स्काउट-गाइड, एनसीसी, ट्रैक एण्ड फील्ड, पर्वतारोहण आदि द्वारा विद्यार्थियों में साहस का गुण विकसित होता है। प्रत्याशी साहसिक कार्यों से सम्बन्धित कथाएँ पढ़ें,खेलकूद,पर्वतारोहण आदि कार्यों में भाग लेने का प्रयास करें। साक्षात्कारकर्ता के प्रश्न को ध्यानपूर्वक सुनें। फिर सोचें, विचारों को क्रमबद्ध करें, तब उत्तर दें।
(iv) चातुर्य एवं अनुकूलता Tact and Adaptability
परिस्थितियों के अनुसार दक्षतापूर्ण प्रबन्ध करना एवं कुशलतापूर्वक कार्य करना चातुर्य कहलाता है। एक बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति कठिन परिस्थितियों में भी अपनी चतुरता से सहज बना रहता है। वह सभी लोगों की भावनाओं का सम्मान करता है और दक्षता के साथ अपने कार्य में संलग्न रहता है। वह सभी तरह के स्वभाव वाले व्यक्तियों के साथ सरलता से कार्य कर लेता है। उसमें अन्य लोगों की भावनाओं को समझने की योग्यता होती है। वह जानबूझकर किसी को ठेस नहीं पहुँचाता। उसके सभी कार्यों से चतुराई झलकती है। साक्षात्कारकर्ता प्रत्याशी के चातुर्य का आकलन भी करते हैं। जो प्रत्याशी साक्षात्कार मण्डल के सामने चातुर्य का प्रदर्शन करते हैं, वे अपना प्रभाव छोड़ने में सफल रहते हैं।
कुछ लोग अपने दैनिक जीवन में कोई समस्या या बाधा आ जाने पर दुःखी हो उठते हैं, कुछ लोग अपनी योजना के असफल रहने पर सन्तुलन खो देते हैं। कुछ पुरातनपन्थी और लकीर के फकीर होते हैं, उनके लिए किसी परिवर्तन को स्वीकार करना कठिन होता है। इस प्रकार के लोगों में अनुकूलता’ जैसे गुण का अभाव होता है।
अनुकूलता वास्तव में एक प्रकार की मानसिक योग्यता है जो किसी व्यक्ति के दृष्टिकोण एवं वैचारिक प्रक्रिया पर निर्भर होती है। इसके रहते व्यक्ति बदले हुए वातावरण के अनुसार स्वयं को शीघ्र ही ढाल लेता है।
जिज्ञासु एवं खुले विचारों वाला व्यक्ति कूपमण्डूक और साहसहीन व्यक्ति की अपेक्षा शीघ्र ही स्वयं को नए वातावरण के अनुकूल बना लेता है। प्रत्याशियों को अपने विचारों को लचीला रखना चाहिए और स्वयं को सभी प्रकार के वातावरण में ढाल लेने की सोच विकसित करनी चाहिए।
(v) तनावपूर्ण स्थिति में शान्त रहना Remaining Cool Under Stressful Situation
यदि कोई व्यक्ति प्रतिकूल परिस्थितियों में अपनी भावनाओं पर नियन्त्रण नहीं रख पाता तो वह अपनी क्षमताओं एवं योग्यताओं का उचित उपयोग नहीं कर पाता। तनाव व्यक्ति के शरीर एवं मस्तिष्क को अनेक प्रकार से प्रभावित करता है। यह शारीरिक क्षमता को कम करता है। विवेक और बुद्धि को कुंठित करता है। यह अकारण भय, थकान, चिड़चिड़ापन, अलगाव, अवसाद और भावनात्मक अस्थिरता उत्पन्न करता है। इन प्रतिकूलताओं से बचने के लिए शरीर व मस्तिष्क का सन्तुलन बनाए रखना आवश्यक है। प्रत्याशियों तनाव के कारणों को खोजकर उन्हें दूर करने का प्रयास करना चाहिए और सदैव शान्त चित्त रहना चाहिए।
(vi) कर्त्तव्य एवं दायित्व बोध Sense of Duty and Responsibility
साधारण हो अथवा कठिन या जोखिमपूर्ण, उसे सदैव ही कर्त्तव्य बोध की भावना से करना कर्तव्य बोध से तात्पर्य सौंपे गए कार्यों का ईमानदारी एवं स्थिरचित्त से करने से है। कार्य चाहे, चाहिए। कार्य के प्रति निष्ठा एवं ईमानदारी का भाव व्यक्ति में उपस्थित कर्तव्य बोध पर निर्भर करता है, जिस व्यक्ति में कर्त्तव्य बोध होता है, वह ईमानदारी से कार्य करता है।
दायित्व बोध नेतृत्व का सामान्य गुण है और यह उससे गहनता से जुड़ा है। कर्तव्य एवं दायित्व बोध के सन्दर्भ में व्यक्ति के अन्दर कुछ गुणो का होना आवश्यक है; जैसे- कर्तव्य के महत्त्व की गहन समझ, सामाजिक नियमो एवं व्यवहार की समझ, मानवीय भावनाओं की समझ, क्रिया एवं प्रतिक्रिया की समझ इत्यादि। कर्त्तव्य एवं दायित्व बोध मनुष्य के प्रमुख चारित्रिक गुण हैं। सफल नेतृत्व के लिए चरित्र में इन दोनों का होना आवश्यक है। नैतिक शिक्षा सम्बन्धी एवं महान् व्यक्तियों से सम्बन्धित साहित्य, नागरिकशास्त्र आदि का अध्ययन करने से कर्तव्य एवं दायित्व बोध का विकास होता है।

(vii) आत्मविश्वास Self Confidence
आत्मविश्वास को ‘सफलता की कुञ्जी’ कहा जाता है। आत्मविश्वास के बल पर व्यक्ति कठिन-से-कठिन परिस्थितियों को अपने अनुकूल बना सकता है। आत्मविश्वास व्यक्तित्व निर्माण में महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है। यह व्यक्तित्व के अन्य गुणों के साथ मिलकर आपके प्रदर्शन को प्रभावशाली बनाता है। जब आप अपने अन्दर इस गुण का विकास कर लेते हैं तो आप स्वयं पर अधिक विश्वास करने लगते हैं, आपके अन्दर आत्म-स्वीकृति का भाव उत्पन्न होता है और आप अपनी सफलता के प्रति विश्वास से भर जाते हैं।

जब आप आत्मविश्वास से भर जाते हैं तो आपके अन्दर उपस्थित भय, आशंका, आत्महीनता जैसे नकारात्मक तत्त्व समाप्त हो जाते हैं और आप स्वयं को क्षमतावान व समर्थ अनुभव करने लगते हैं। जिस व्यक्ति में अपनी शक्तियों को पहचान कर उनके उचित उपयोग की समझ उत्पन्न हो जाती है, वह अपने प्रत्येक कार्य में उनका उपयोग कर सकता है।

संचार सभी मानवीय क्रियाओं का मूल तत्त्व है। संचार के अभाव में हम स्वयं को अभिव्यक्त नहीं कर सकते। संचार-कुशलता के अभाव में साक्षात्कार की कल्पना भी नहीं की जा सकती। साक्षात्कारकर्ता प्रत्याशी से अच्छे संचार-कौशल की अपेक्षा रखता है। प्रत्याशी में एकाग्रता से सुनने, समझने और स्पष्ट उच्चारण में साथ प्रत्युत्तर देने की क्षमता होनी चाहिए। यदि हम दैनिक जीवन में ही देखें तो पाएंगे कि संचार की सामाजिक, धार्मिक, राजनैतिक या घरेलू सभी मानवीय क्रियाओं में विशेष भूमिका है। यदि किसी परिवार के सदस्यों में भी भली प्रकार संचार न हो तो अनेक समस्याएँ उत्पन्न हो जाती हैं। सामान्यतः माना जाता है कि किसी भी संस्थान के प्रबन्धक अपने 75% से अधिक समय का उपयोग संचार और उससे सम्बन्धित क्रिया-कलापों में करते हैं। इस प्रकार संचार प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के जीवन का अभिन्न अंग है।
जिस संगठन के अधिकारी व कर्मचारी संचार-कुशलता से युक्त होते हैं, वह तीव्र गति से प्रगति करता है और अपने लक्ष्य को प्राप्त कर लेता है। संचार कार्यक्रम नियोजन एवं संगठन या विभाग के लोगों के मध्य बेहतर समझ सुनिश्चित करता है।
संचार के माध्यम से हम विभिन्न विभागों और किसी भी संगठन के सदस्यों के बीच सकारात्मक सम्बन्ध स्थापित कर सकते हैं। मौखिक, लिखित, श्रवण, पठन, अन्तवैयक्तिगत संचार के विभिन्न रूप हैं। संचार में केवल एक ही सूचना का संचार नहीं होता बल्कि इसके माध्यम से अनेक सूचनाएँ एक साथ संचरित होती हैं। इस प्रकार यह अनेक प्रकार से व्यवहार परिवर्तन में भूमिका का निर्वाह करता है। संचार कौशल में वृद्धि के लिए संचार के तत्त्वों का ज्ञान होना आवश्यक है।

सफल संचार के लिए निम्नलिखित तत्त्व उत्तरदायी होते हैं
- संचार का पहला तत्त्व स्वयं संचारकर्ता ( Messenger ) और उसका व्यक्तित्व होता है। संचारकर्ता जो बात कहना चाहता है यदि उसे भली प्रकार संचरित नहीं कर पाता तो उसका संचार असफल हो जाता है। प्रभावी संचार के लिए विश्वास एक प्रमुख कारक है। जो लोग आपस में विश्वास नहीं रखते, वे एक-दूसरे तक प्रभावी संचार नहीं कर पाते।
- संचार का दूसरा तत्त्व उसमें सम्प्रेषित किया जाने वाला सन्देश ( Message ) है। संचार का उद्देश्य विचार विनिमय, क्रियान्वयन, आपसी समझ उत्पन्न करना, व्यवहार में परिवर्तन लाना अथवा किसी लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करना होता है।
- संचार का तीसरा तत्त्व संचार के उपरान्त लोगों की प्रतिक्रिया ( Response ) देखना होता है अर्थात् जो बात संचरित की गई, उसका लोगों पर क्या प्रभाव पड़ा अथवा लोगों ने उसे किस रूप में लिया। सामान्यत: किसी व्यक्ति की प्रतिक्रिया उसकी अपनी परिस्थितियों, अपेक्षाओं, महत्त्वाकांक्षाओं, जीवन स्तर, मानसिक स्तर, शिक्षा, प्रशिक्षण, अनुभव आदि पर निर्भर करती है। संचारकर्ता को इन सभी तत्त्वों को ध्यान में रखते हुए अपने संचार कार्यक्रम का ढाँचा तैयार करना चाहिए, तभी वह प्रभावी संचार करने में सफल हो सकता है।
- संचार का चौथा पहलू संचार के लिए उपयोग में लाए जाने वाले साधन से सम्बन्धित है। संचार के अनेक साधन हो सकते हैं; जैसे-दृश्य-श्रव्य साधन, व्यक्तिगत रूप से बातचीत करना, लिखित सामग्री का प्रयोग करना आदि।
- संचार का पाँचवाँ तत्त्व है -परिस्थितियाँ । इसके अन्तर्गत भौतिक, मनोवैज्ञानिक और काल सम्बन्धी परिस्थितियाँ सम्मिलित होती है। प्रभावी संचार के लिए इन तत्त्वों पर विचार किया जाता है।
साक्षात्कार देने वाले प्रत्याशी में संचार सम्बन्धी निम्नलिखित कौशलों का होना अनिवार्य है.
(i) भाषा Language
भाषा संचार का एक प्रमुख तत्व है। भाषा के अभाव में संचार नहीं किया जा सकता। प्रत्याशी को साक्षात्कार मण्डल समक्ष सरल, सहज एवं सम्प्रेषणीय भाषा का प्रयोग करना चाहिए। शब्दों का उच्चारण शुद्ध हो, शब्द क्लिष्ट न हो। भाषा में सुधार के लिए प्रत्याशी रेडियो पर समाचार, वार्ताए, परिचर्चाएँ सुनें। साथ ही किसी समाचार-पत्र की कुछ पंक्तियाँ जोर-जोर से बोलकर अभ्यास करें। इससे भाषा के साथ-साथ संचार-कौशल में भी वृद्धि होगी।
(ii) स्वर और शैली voice and Style
प्रत्याशी को साक्षात्कार मण्डल से मृदु स्वर में वार्तालाप करना चाहिए। तेज स्वर में बोलना अथवा कुछ विशेष शब्दों पर अत्यधिक जोर देकर बोलना या कुछ शब्दों का उच्चारण अत्यन्त धीमे स्वर में करना उचित नहीं होता। प्रश्नों के उत्तर सदैव सधे हुए स्वर में देश चाहिए। वार्तालाप में उतार-चढ़ाव, विराम आदि का ध्यान रखने पर साक्षात्कारमण्डल के सामने अपनी बात प्रभावशाली ढंग से रखी जा सकती है।
(iii) अभिव्यक्ति की क्षमता Power of Expression
साक्षात्कार में सफलता प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रत्याशी में स्वयं को अभिव्यक्त करने की क्षमता होनी चाहिए। जो प्रत्याशी अपने भावों को कुशलता से अभिव्यक्त कर देते हैं, वे साक्षात्कार में सफल हो जाते हैं। प्रत्याशियों को अपने भावों को कुशलतापूर्वक अभिव्यक्त करने का अभ्यास करना चाहिए। इसके लिए अपने साथियों के साथ विभिन्न विषयों पर परिचर्चा करनी चाहिए और किसी चुने गए विषय पर सबके सामने विचार व्यक्त करने का अभ्यास करना चाहिए। जो त्रुटियाँ हों, उनमें सुधार लाना चाहिए।
(iv) स्वर की स्पष्टता Clarity of Speech
प्रत्याशी अपने मनोभावों का कुशलतापूर्वक संचार तभी कर सकते हैं, जब वे किसी भी बात को स्पष्ट स्वर में व्यक्त करें। प्रत्याशी इस बात का विशेष ध्यान रखें कि वे जो भी बात बोलें स्पष्टता के साथ बोलें ताकि साक्षात्कार मण्डल का प्रत्येक सदस्य पूछे गए प्रश्न के उत्तर को समझ सके और ठीक-ठीक मूल्यांकन कर सके। कुछ लोग बात करते समय वाक्य के अन्तिम शब्द या बीच-बीच में अन्य शब्दों को बोलने में अत्यधिक शीघ्रता करते हैं, जिससे वाक्य का आधा-अधूरा अर्थ समझ आता है और प्रत्याशी के प्रदर्शन का उचित मूल्यांकन नहीं हो पाता। अतः साक्षात्कार के समय प्रत्याशियों को स्पष्ट स्वर में अपनी बात कहनी चाहिए।
3- बाह्य व्यक्तित्व Appearance – Personality development in hindi
इसके अन्तर्गत प्रत्याशी के बाह्य व्यक्तित्व सम्बन्धी सभी तत्त्व सम्मिलित रहते हैं। प्रत्याशी अपने बाह्य व्यक्तित्व को आकर्षक बनाकर साक्षात्कार मण्डल पर सकारात्मक प्रभाव डाल सकता है।
बाह्य व्यक्तित्व में शरीर की बाह्य बनावट, कपड़े, चेहरे के हाव-भाव, खड़े होने, उठने-बैठने का ढंग, शिष्टाचार, चुस्ती-फुर्ती आदि तत्त्व सम्मिलित रहते हैं। अनेक बार हमें ऐसे लोग मिलते हैं जो हमें एक ही झलक में अपनी ओर आकर्षित कर लेते हैं। बाह्य व्यक्तित्व को आकर्षक बनाए रखना अत्यधिक महत्त्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि साक्षात्कारमण्डल पर यह स्थाई प्रभाव डालता है।
4- बौद्धिक क्षमता Intelligence – Personality development in hindi
ज्ञान का सही और तर्कपूर्ण उपयोग करना ही बौद्धिक क्षमता है। बौद्धिक क्षमता का विकास दिन-प्रतिदिन के अनुभवों से होता है। यद्यपि प्रत्याशी की बौद्धिक क्षमता का परीक्षण लिखित परीक्षा के माध्यम से ही हो जाता है फिर भी इसका आकलन साक्षात्कार प्रक्रिया द्वारा भी किया जाता है। इसलिए प्रत्याशी को अपने विषय एवं सामान्य ज्ञान की गहन जानकारी होनी चाहिए। साक्षात्कार में जाने से पूर्व उसे अपने वैकल्पिक विषयों के मूल सिद्धान्तों को भली प्रकार से समझ लेना चाहिए।
अपने विचारों और दृष्टिकोण पर दृढ़ रहे। विचार तार्किक और विश्लेषणात्मक हों।
विषय सम्बन्धी जानकारी के साथ-साथ प्रत्याशियों को समसामयिक राष्ट्रीय व अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय घटनाक्रमों पर भी पैनी नजर रखनी चाहिए। साक्षात्कारमण्डल रोजगार की खोज में लगे हुए प्रत्याशी से अच्छे सामान्य ज्ञान की अपेक्षा करता है।
प्राय: साक्षात्कार के समय प्रत्याशी की विश्लेषण एवं निर्णय क्षमता को परख करने के लिए उससे किसी राजनैतिक अथवा आर्थिक समस्या को हल करने के उपाय पूछे जाते हैं। इस तरह के प्रश्नों का कोई भी सीधा-सपाट उत्तर नहीं होता। ऐसे प्रश्नों के लिए यह महत्त्वपूर्ण होता है कि प्रत्याशी ने समस्या का विश्लेषण किस प्रकार किया और किस रूप में किया है। प्रत्याशी द्वारा समस्या के सन्दर्भ में किए गए विश्लेषण और उसके हल के लिए सुझाए गए निर्णय एवं उत्तर के प्रस्तुतीकरण का महत्त्व होता है।
5- ग्रहणशीलता Adaptability – Personality development in hindi
साक्षात्कार में ग्रहणशीलता का विशेष महत्त्व है। एक चतुर प्रत्याशी वार्तालाप के विषय में रुचि लेता है, उस पर पूर्ण ध्यान देता है और शीघ्रता से विषय को समझ लेता है; जबकि जिस प्रत्याशी में ग्रहणशीलता का अभाव होता है, वह विषय को देर से समझ पाता है। इस प्रकार अलग-अलग लोगों की समझ और उनकी ग्रहणशीलता भी अलग-अलग होती है। प्रत्याशी अध्ययन, मनन और एकाग्रता का अभ्यास करके अपनी ग्रहणशीलता में वृद्धि कर सकते हैं और साक्षात्कार में श्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन कर सकते हैं।
6- निर्णय क्षमता Decision Capacity
प्रत्येक व्यक्ति अपने मस्तिष्क द्वारा लिए गए निर्णय के अनुसार कार्य करता है। मस्तिष्क द्वारा कार्य करने का निर्णय लिए जाने के पश्चात् ही व्यक्ति कार्य आरम्भ करता है। सही समय पर लिया गया सही निर्णय ही लाभकारी होता है। आपात स्थिति में सही समय पर सही निर्णय लेने का बहुत महत्त्व है।
एक नेतृत्वकर्ता में शीघ्र एवं सही निर्णय लेने की क्षमता होनी चाहिए। वर्तमान में जब हर स्तर पर शक्तियों का विकेन्द्रीकरण हो रहा है, तब एक नेता में शीघ्र एवं सही निर्णय लेने का गुण अवश्य ही होना चाहिए।
सभी नौकरियों में कुछ अवसर ऐसे आते हैं जब एक कनिष्ठ अधिकारी को स्वतन्त्र रूप से कार्य करना पड़ता है। नए कार्यभार को सम्भालते समय उसके समक्ष कुछ नवीन और अपरिचित समस्याएँ आ खड़ी होती हैं। इस समय यदि वह निर्णय लेने में अधिक समय लगा देता है या सही निर्णय नहीं ले पाता तो वह अपने दायित्व का निर्वाह ठीक प्रकार से नहीं कर पाता है। इसलिए उसे सही समय पर सही निर्णय लेना चाहिए।
साक्षात्कारमण्डल प्रत्याशी से विविध प्रकार के प्रश्न करके उसकी निर्णय क्षमता का आकलन करता है। इस प्रकार के प्रश्नों को समझने के लिए प्रत्याशियों को नियमित रूप से पूर्व सफल प्रत्याशियों के साक्षात्कार पढ़ने चाहिए।

7- सामाजिकता Sociality
व्यक्ति का किसी भी स्तर पर किसी भी प्रकार का प्रदर्शन इस बात पर निर्भर करता है कि उसका सामाजिक पर्यावरण कैसा है? अच्छे प्रदर्शन हेतु उसे अपने आस-पास के समाज के साथ तारतम्य बैठाकर चलना पड़ता है। उसे अपने अन्दर सामाजिकता का विकास करना पड़ता है।मनुष्य एक सामाजिक प्राणी है।
वह जीवन के हर कदम पर अन्य मनुष्यों के साथ कार्य-व्यापार करता है। जन्म से ही बालक अपने आस-पास जिन लोगों को देखता है, उनसे जुड़ा रहता है; जैसे–माता-पिता, मित्र, अध्यापक इत्यादि। आयु बढ़ने के साथ-साथ मनुष्य के सामाजिक सम्बन्धों का दायरा बढ़ता जाता है। इसी से उसके अन्दर सहकारिता, टीम भावना और शिष्टाचार का विकास होता है
(i) सहकारिता Cooperation
सहकारिता का अर्थ होता है मिल-जुलकर कार्य करना। यह सामाजिकता का मूलभूत गुण है। जब भी कुछ लोग एक ही लक्ष्य को पाना चाहते हैं तो वे अपने प्रयासों और संसाधनों को संयुक्त कर एक टीम के रूप में कार्य करते हैं। यद्यपि उनकी योग्यताएँ एवं क्षमता समान नहीं होती हैं, पर वे एक ही लक्ष्य-प्राप्ति के लिए कार्य करते हैं और प्राप्त होने वाले लाभ में समान रूप से सहभागी होते है। किसी भी संगठन में सहजता से कार्य करने के लिए व्यक्ति में सहकारिता का भाव होना आवश्यक है। इसी सहकारिता से संगठन की उत्पादकता बढ़ती है और इच्छित लक्ष्य प्राप्त हो जाता है। प्रत्याशी को अपने अन्दर मिल-जुलकर कार्य करने की भावना का विकास करना चाहिए।
(ii) टीम भावना Team Spirit
यह व्यक्ति का वह गुण है जो सहकारिता के साथ जुड़ा होता है। यह एक-दूसरे से जुड़कर कार्य करने की भावना है। व्यक्तियों का वह समूह, जो एक ही उद्देश्य की प्राप्ति के लिए साथ मिलकर कार्य करता है, संगठन कहलाता है। इसलिए समूह के प्रत्येक व्यक्ति में टीम भावना होनी चाहिए। टीम भावना का तात्पर्य टीम के प्रत्येक सदस्य के मन में टीम के प्रति निष्ठा की भावना से है। यह वह गुण है जो किसी देश या संगठन को मजबूत बनाता है। उसके विकास को गति देता है। वह संगठन जिसके कर्मचारी कार्य में व्यक्तिगत रूप से रुचि लेते हैं और निर्धारित लक्ष्यों का आदर करते हैं वे सदैव सफल रहते हैं। ऐसे लोग दूसरों के लिए कार्य करने की भावना से सदा ओत-प्रोत रहते हैं और अपने संगठन के लिए स्वयं को पूर्णतः समर्पित कर देते हैं। यही किसी संगठन की सफलता की कुञ्जी है। विभिन्न प्रकार के खेलकूद और सामूहिक कार्य टीम भावना के विकास में सहायक होते हैं।
(iii) शिष्टाचार Manners
शिष्टाचार का सामान्य अर्थ होता है-दूसरों के साथ व्यवहार का श्रेष्ठ ढंग। हम सभी एक सामाजिक प्राणी हैं। समाज में एक नागरिक के लिए व्यवहार करने के जो नियम निर्धारित किए जाते हैं, वही शिष्टाचार कहलाते हैं। प्रत्याशियों को साक्षात्कार के समय अपने शिष्ट आचरण का प्रदर्शन करना चाहिए। शिष्टाचार के विकास के लिए व्यक्तित्व में विनम्रता, अनुशासन और दूसरों के व्यक्तिगत जीवन में हस्तक्षेप न करना जैसे गुणों का विकास करना चाहिए। जब कोई अधिकारी या कर्मचारी अपने कार्यालय में सभी लोगों के साथ शिष्ट व्यवहार करता है तो वह सबका प्रिय बन जाता है। उसके कार्यों में सभी सह-कर्मचारी सहयोग देते हैं, जिससे वह सफलतापूर्वक अपने निर्धारित लक्ष्य को प्राप्त कर लेता है।

साक्षात्कार में उपस्थित होने वाले प्रत्याशियों के लिए मानसिक सतर्कता अत्यन्त आवश्यक है। मानसिक रूप से सतर्क प्रत्याशी साक्षात्कारमण्डल के प्रश्नों को भली-भाँति समझकर उनका सटीक उत्तर दे सकता है। मानसिक सतर्कता का विकास और वृद्धि के लिए प्रत्याशियों को दूसरों की बात को ध्यानपूर्वक सुनने की आदत डालनी चाहिए। ध्यान (Meditation) करने से भी मानसिक सतर्कता में वृद्धि की जा सकती है।
साक्षात्कारमण्डल आपकी मानसिक सतर्कता परखने के लिए कई प्रकार के प्रश्न कर सकता है; जैसे—कोई अटपटा प्रश्न कर देना, कोई व्यावहारिक समस्या उत्पन्न करना अथवा कोई छद्म टिप्पणी करना इत्यादि। प्रत्याशियों को इस तरह के प्रश्नों से विचलित नहीं होना चाहिए बल्कि विचारपूर्वक सहज भाव से उत्तर देना चाहिए। यह बात सदैव अपने मन में रखें कि साक्षात्कारमण्डल के सदस्यों का उद्देश्य आपको हताश अथवा निराश करना नहीं होता और न ही वे आपका उपहास उड़ाना चाहते हैं। वे केवल यह परीक्षण करना चाहते हैं कि जिस पद के लिए आप साक्षात्कार दे रहे हैं आप उसके लिए उपयुक्त हैं या नहीं, चयनित होने पर आप अपने दायित्वों का निर्वाह कर पाएँगे या नहीं।
9- दृष्टिकोण की स्थिरता Consistency of Approach
भावुकता जीवन का कोई भी क्षेत्र हो, दृष्टिकोण की स्थिरता अनिवार्य है। व्यक्ति की सफलता दी बात पर निर्भर करती है कि उसका दृष्टिकोण किस सीमा तक स्थिर है। प्रत्याशी को अपने लिया का एक दृष्टिकोण बनाना चाहिए, उसमें अति भावुकता आदि का स्थान नहीं होना चाहिए। क्षणों में भी दृष्टिकोण को स्थिर रखना चाहिए क्योंकि मन की अस्थिरता से लाया साक्षात्कार से सम्बन्धित पद के लिए यदि आपको चुन लिया गया तो आप स्थिरतापूर्वक प्राप्ति में बाधा पहुँचती है। साक्षात्कारमण्डल के समक्ष आप यह भी दशनि का प्रयास को नि दायित्वों का निर्वाह करेंगे। यह बात उल्लेखनीय है कि साक्षात्कारकर्ता प्रारम्भ में पूछे गए प्रश्न दोहरा भी सकते हैं। आपको भ्रमित करने के लिए और आपके दृष्टिकोण की स्थिरता को परखने के लिए प्रश्नों को घुमा-फिराकर पूछ सकते हैं। अत: साक्षात्कार के प्रारम्भ से अन्त तक कि विषय पर समान दृष्टिकोण बनाए रखें और उसे सटीक तर्क द्वारा साक्षात्कारकर्ता के बार प्रस्तुत करें।
10- विचारों की सम्बद्धता Coherence of Thoughts – Personality development in hindi
मानसिक सतर्कता, दृष्टिकोण की स्थिरता और विचारों की सम्बद्धता, ये तीनों ही परस्य सम्बन्धित गुण इन तीनों को एक-दूसरे के सन्दर्भ में इस प्रकार आंका जाता है कि आपके व्यक्तित्व में इन तीनों का व्यावहारिक रूप में सन्तुलित सम्मिश्रण है अथवा नहीं। किसी भी विषय परिस्थिति या समस्या पर आपका दृष्टिकोण तर्क पर आधारित और विचारों की एकरूपता से युक्त होना चाहिए अन्यथा आपके विचार अस्थिर होंगे जिसके फलस्वरूप साक्षात्कारमण्डल पर आप अच्छा प्रभाव नहीं छोड़ पाएँगे। यह बात सर्वमान्य है कि एक स्पष्ट दृष्टि रखने वाले व्यक्ति का मस्तिष्क ही विचारों की सुसम्बद्ध शृंखला रख सकता है और उसे अभिव्यक्त कर सकता है। अगर प्रत्याशी अध्यावसाय द्वारा अपने सभी विचारों को सुसम्बद्ध रूप में प्रस्तुत करने की योग्यता का विकास करें।

Personality या व्यक्तित्व शब्द से हम सब भली प्रकार से परिचित हैं. इस शब्द का प्रयोग हम अपने जीवन में किसी भी व्यक्ति के गुण या attributes के रूप में करते हैं. अकसर ही हम ये कहते हुए पाए जाते हैं कि उस व्यक्ति की personality बहुत अच्छी है या “क्या पर्सनालिटी है!”.
पर क्या सही मायनो में हम इस शब्द के व्यापक रूप को समझ पाए हैं . Personality को अकसर लोग शारीरिक आकर्षण या सुंदरता से जोड़ कर देखते हैं पर इस शब्द के व्यापक रूप को हम समझ नहीं पाए हैं . Personality शब्द एक Latin शब्द Persona से derive हुआ है जिसका अर्थ होता है mask ; जिसका उपयोग रोमन लोग थियेटर में काम करने के लिए और अलग-अलग किरदार निभाने के लिए करते थे. इसका अर्थ तो ये हुआ की personality वही है जैसा हम दिखते हैं या दूसरों को नज़र आते हैं. पर ये personality की बहुत ही संकुचित परिभाषा हुई . व्यक्तित्व को सही रूप में इस परिभाषा से समझा जा सकता है –
” Personality is the dynamic organisation within the individuals of those psycho physical systems which determines his characteristic , behaviour and thought or which determines his unique adjustment to his environment”
इसका अर्थ ये हुआ कि पर्सनॅलिटी सिर्फ़ शारीरिक गुणों से ही नही बल्कि विचारों और व्यवहार से भी मिल कर बनती है जो हमारे व्यवहार और समाज में हमारे समायोजन को भी निर्धारित करती है . कोई भी व्यक्ति जन्मजात अच्छी personality ले कर पैदा नही होता है बल्कि सफल होने लिए अपने अंदर गुणों को विकसित करना पड़ता है. ऐसे गुणों को जो दूसरों को प्रभावित करे साथ ही साथ अपने आपको भी develop करे.
शारीरिक रूप से सुंदर होना या intelligent होना व्यक्तित्व का सिर्फ़ एक ही पहलू हैं बल्कि अच्छी personality के लिए ज्ञान का सही उपयोग करना और अपने gestures और posture को उसके अनुरूप बनाना आवश्यक होता है.
अपने व्यक्तित्व को निखारने के लिए पहली आवश्यकता है सही perception क्योकि आप वही देखते हैं जो आप देखना चाहते हैं ‘ we see the things through our mind not through our eyes”, अपने negative emotions से दूर रहना और inferiority complex को दूर करना. ऐसा बिल्कुल भी नही है कि अगर आप physically attractive नही है तो आप की personality अच्छी नही है- मार्टिन लूथर किंग , गाँधी जी , इत्यादि शारीरिक रूप से attractive नही थे पर मानव जाती के लिए इनका व्यक्तित्व एक मिसाल है. क्योकि इन लोगो ने अपने negative emotions पर पर विजय पाई और खुद पर भरोसा किया. Negative emotions पर विजय पाने का उपाय है love yourself, feel good about yourself and make realistic life goals.
अपने साथियों से बेहतर बनने की बजाए कोशिश करे की अपने आप से बेहतर बने. Stress और fear दो बहुत ही बड़े कारण है जो हमारी personality को पूरी तरह से निखरने नही देते , अपने अंदर के डर को पहचानना और उससे मुक्त होने का प्रयास करना अत्यंत आवश्यक है. सब से बड़ा डर जो किसी भी व्यक्ति के मन में होता है वो है fear of failure जिसे बार बार प्रयास कर के ही दूर किया जा सकता है. Positive attitude , self confidence , self motivation और अच्छी body language का इस्तेमाल कर के अपनी personality को develop किया जा सकता है. Because positive feelings come from being honest about yourself and accepting your personality, and physical characteristics, warts , scars and all; and to accept yourself without question.
व्यक्तित्व में विचारो और व्यवहारो की भूमिका के साथ साथ physical characteristics को नकारा नही जा सकता . Physical characteristics से अर्थ खूबसूरत चेहरे का नही बल्कि high level of energy, personal hygiene की और activeness से है साथ ही साथ सही manners, how to speak and treat others की knowledge होना अत्यंत आवश्यक है. हमारी personality का एक बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा हमारे personal relationship हैं. किसी व्यक्ति का व्यक्तित्व इस बात से भी आँका जा सकता है कि वो अपने personal relationships को किस प्रकार manage करता है या उसमे कितना सफल रहा है.
विक्खयात physiologist Hippocrates ने सबसे पहले पर्सनॅलिटी को चार भाग में बांटा था SANGUINE,MELANCHOLIC, PHLEGMATIC AND CHOLERIC.
उनका मानना था कि Sanguine लोगो में blood की मात्रा अधिक होती है तथा ये खुश रहते हैं और दूसरों को भी खुश रख ते हैं तथा ज़्यादा सोच विचार नही करते, melancholic बहुत ही systematic और logical होते है हर चीज़ को सोच समझ के चलते है, phlegmatic लोग शांत प्रवृत्ति के होते है किसी भी बात पर वे अधिक उत्तेजित नही होते और choleric गुस्से वाले होते हैं उनके अंदर leadership quality भी अधिक होती है जिसके कारण वे दूसरों को dominate करते है. इससे आप अंदाज़ा लगा ही सकते हैं कि हर तरह के पर्सनॅलिटी की अपने ही विशेषता है और इस दुनिया में इन चारो प्रकारो की आवश्यकता है ताकि संतुलन बना रहे. हम सब में ये चारो traits या personality होती हैं पर किसी में कोई गुण ज़्यादा है तो किसी में कोई और ये सब शारीरिक गुणों के कारण नही है बल्कि हमारी स्वाभाविक प्रवित्ती के कारण है. हमे एक दूसरे की पर्सनॅलिटी को पहचानना है और उसके हिसाब से adjustment करना है. मान लीजिए की आप sanguine है तो ज़रूरी नही कि आपका साथी भी sanguine हो, हो सकता है की वो melancholic हो या choleric हो बल्कि अगर आप sanguine हैं तो हो सकता है की आप अपने चंचल स्वाभाव के कारण समझदारी से decision ना ले पाए ऐसे में कोई melancholic personality वाला आपको बेहतर गाइड कर सकता है.
हमे सामने वाले की personality को भाँपते हुए react करना चाहिए क्योंकि हर व्यक्ति इस दुनिया में unique है. हमे हर प्रकार के व्यक्तित्व की respect करनी चाहिए और अपनी personality develop करने का निरंतर प्रयास करना चाहिए, क्योंकि ” personality is to human as fragrance is to flower .”

कौशल विकास क्या है? What is Skill Developemnt in Hindi?
स्किल का हिंदी में अर्थ होता है कौशल और डेवलपमेंट का अर्थ विकास होता है। सही स्त्रोत के माध्यम से अपने गुणों और कुशलताओं में श्रम के द्वारा किये जाने वाले विकास को “स्किल डेवलपमेंट” कहते हैं। स्किल डेवलपमेंट करने के कई तरीके हैं लेकिन सबसे ज्यादा कारगर और प्रचलित तरीके निम्नलिखित है।
मुफ्त के संस्थान जैसे यूट्यूब और अन्य निशुल्क स्थान जहाँ से कौशल विकास की शिक्षा मिलती हो।
सरकारी संस्थानों द्वारा चलाये गए अभियानों के द्वारा शिक्षा प्राप्त कर स्वयं के स्किल्स को सुधारना।

वर्तमान प्रधानमन्त्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी जी ने 15 जुलाई 2015 को स्किल इंडिया मुहीम की घोषणा की जिसमें उन्होंने सन 2022 तक पुरे भारत के चालीस करोड़ लोगों को इस मुहीम के तहत कुशल बनाने का प्रण लिया है। इस योजना का मुख्य उद्देश्य ऐसे लोगों को सक्षम बनाना है जो वास्तव में खुद के जीवन में परिवर्तन चाहते हैं लेकिन उनके पास ज़रियों का अभाव है और उस अभाव के कारण वे हेय स्तर का जीवन व्यतीत कर रहे हैं।
भारत को युवाओं का देश कहा जाता है ऐसे में यह बेहद जरुरी हो जाता है की वे अपने स्किल्स का विकास करें ताकि उसके माध्यम से वे खुद के जीवन में बदलाव लाने के साथ देश को भी आर्थिक रूप से मजबूती ला सकें।
कौशल भारत अभियान का उद्देश्य स्वयं सफल बनाने के साथ साथ भारत से बहु-आयामी समस्याओं का निराकरण करना भी है। पिछली सरकारों ने योजनायें तो कई निकाली पर उन पर कार्य उतनी रफ़्तार से नहीं हुआ लेकिन वर्तमान प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी के शब्दों ने करोड़ों लोगों में उम्मीद की किरण जगाई है वे कहते हैं की “मैं भारत को विश्व की कौशल राजधानी बनाने के लिये पूरे राष्ट्र को प्रतिज्ञा करने के लिये आह्वान करता हूँ।”
कौशल विकास के लाभ? Benefits of Skill Development in Hindi
कौशल भारत के अंतर्गत लाखों लोगों के जीवन में सकारात्मक बदलाव आये हैं वर्तमान सरकार ने गरीब व अकुशल युवाओं प्रशिक्षित कर बेरोजगारी के स्तर को कम करने का लक्ष्य रखा है।
एक इंसान के स्किल डेवलपमेंट से उस व्यक्ति की आय के साथ राष्ट्रीय आय में वृद्धि होती है।
स्किल डेवलपमेंट के माध्यम से किसी भी इंसान में सोई हुई प्रतिभा को जगाने के साथ आत्मविश्वास में भी वृद्धि होती है।
स्किल डेवलपमेंट के समय बरती जानेवाली सावधानियाँ Precautions during Skill Development
स्किल डेवलपमेंट के लिए आवेदन सरकारी कार्यालय या ऑफिसियल वेबसाइट पर ही देंना चाहिए क्योंकि इन योजनाओं के नाम पर कुछ लोग ठगी के फ़िराक में बैठे रहते हैं।

Personality is concerned with the psychological pattern of an individual— the thoughts, emotions and feelings—that are unique to a person. In fact, the totality of character, attributes and traits of a person are responsible for molding his personality.
These inherent personality traits and the different soft skills interact with each other and make a person what he or she is. It helps bring out a number of intrinsic qualities of a person, which are a must in any responsible position.
In simple words, personality is a set of qualities that make a person distinct from another. The word ‘personality’ originates from the Latin word ‘persona’, which means a mask. In the theatre of the ancient Latin-speaking world, the mask was just a conventional device to represent or typify a particular character.
It is the sum of the characteristics that constitute the mental and physical being of a person including appearance, manners, habits, taste and even moral character. The personality of a person is how he presents himself to the world; it is how others see him.
It has been aptly said:
Reputation is what people think you are.
Personality is what you seem to be.
Character is what you really are.
When we do something again and again, we form a habit. Ultimately these habits form a particular behaviour. If they recur frequently, they become a part of our psyche. They are reflected in all our activities—what we say, what we do, how we behave in certain circumstances and even in how we think. They become the core of our personality.
Personality analysis is thus a methodology for categorizing the character and behaviour of a person. Personality is made up of some characteristic pattern of thoughts, feelings and behaviour that make one person different from others.
Each of these individual attributes has its own individual characteristics, as indicated in Table 1.1.

According to a theory expostulated by Carl Jung (1875-1961), a contemporary of Freud, all personal characteristics are a by-product of two fundamental attitude types: introversion and extroversion. Extroverts are optimistic, outgoing and confident, while introverts are averse to going out and facing the world outside.
Besides introversion and extroversion, different temperaments of individuals play an important role in determining their personality. Long ago, Greek physician Hippocrates put forward the theory that the temperament of a person is dependent on certain fluids (which he calls ‘humor’) present in the human body.
Disproportionate mixtures and increase of any of the humors causes a change in the human temperament.
According to this categorization, human temperaments have been classified into four categories:
Sanguine temperament — caused by excess of blood
Melancholic temperament — caused by excess of spleen
Phlegmatic temperament — caused by excess of phlegm
Choleric temperament — caused by excess of bile

Yet, as you read through the different anecdotes of this great leader, what strikes you as a refreshing revelation is that Mandela very effectively ‘worked on’ his personality. He was conscious that his personality reflected the confidence he exuded in others, and his demeanor was a signal to his people.
As stated in a TIME magazine article (2008), during a presidential election campaign. Nelson Mandela’s propeller plane developed a snag a few minutes before landing. Mandela, however, continued to be calm, reading a newspaper. The plane had an emergency landing and Mandela came out safe.
Later Mandela said, ‘Man, I was terrified up there!.. Of course I was afraid!… But as a leader, you cannot let people know. You must put up a front.’ Richard Stengel wrote in this TIME magazine article about Mandela as he reflected on this episode:
‘And that’s precisely what he learned to do: pretend and, through the act of appearing fearless, inspire others. It was a pantomime Mandela perfected on Robben island, where there was much to fear.
Prisoners who were with him said watching Mandela walk across the courtyard, upright and proud, was enough to keep them going for days. He knew that he was a model for others, and that gave him the strength to triumph over his own fear.’
Similarly, while Mandela was always bitter about his long imprisonment, he always put up a positive demeanour about it.
India’s cricket captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni too sends a cool and composed signal to his team at all times. Even in the most stressful situations, he appears completely in control and unruffled.
Yet, internally he churns his thoughts at all times, with a deft combination of planning his moves and being outright street-smart. He is aware that his unflustered exterior is a signal that keeps his team composed and focused, without losing their nerve in crunch situations.

Wearing fatigues and sporting a beard while he was the leader of the African National Congress’s (ANC’s) underground wing showed his aggression (TIME 2008). Thus, it is possible, and even desirable, to not have the same personality under all conditions. Consciously working on, and demonstrating different personalities under different conditions can be very powerful.
In a corporate-setting, appearance and body language matter. One’s attire, demeanour and style reflect one’s personality. Hence, it is important to consciously work on one’s appearance so that it creates the desired impression during an interview or subsequently in one’s career.
Case III: There isn’t One Right Personality; It Differs by Role :
In an interview for a global team leader position, an experienced candidate, Seema, was pitted against a well-qualified and outspoken John. Seema had worked in several companies, and led small teams. John, on the other hand, was a brilliant researcher and had primarily worked in individual contributor roles.
During the interview for the team leader position, the interviewer presented a case where the work to be done is split across two teams—one in India, the other in the US. The team in India looked at their counterpart in the US as a threat, and vice versa. Each team wanted to get a bigger share of the pie and own more of the quality work than the other.
When John was asked how he would handle the leadership of the India team, he said he would outmaneuver the US team by demonstrating clear innovation excellence and superiority of his team over its counterpart.
He confidently articulated the many methods he would use to showcase to his management how the work he did will clearly be of higher value and impact. This would ensure increased ownership of the work by the India team, and hence a larger share of the pie.
Seema, however took a completely different view. She said she would first call for a joint face-to-face interaction session between the US and the India teams. The intent would be to break any mental barriers and misgivings between the teams and the respective leaders.
She said it is critical that the teams on both sides of the globe think of themselves as one team—since they both represented the same company, working to win against the competition. Subsequent to that session, the teams will work cohesively, supporting each other at all times, to win more customer business.
This way, she explained, the total work pie can be grown, benefiting both the teams. It would give both the India team and the US team more responsibilities.
The interview team liked John’s aggression and confidence, but felt that these personality traits, while valuable in many cases, were not appropriate for this role. The current role required a strong ethic of teamwork and global collaboration.
John’s focus would lead to more internal strife and competition. He would dissipate more energy on winning internal battles. Seema’s strategy was to build a strong global team and to focus her energy externally to win against competitors.

Of these three, the id is absolutely unconscious; it has nothing to do with reality. It acts per the pleasure principle that demands immediate gratification irrespective of the environment. However, such instant satisfaction of the needs is not always realistic or socially acceptable.
Examples of id would be the instinct to grab a beautiful piece of artistry from a museum to satisfy our own craving. Another example could be to want to hit a person in public as a reaction to an abuse.
Next is the ego, which is actively concerned with the reality principle. It intends to realistically meet the demands of the id in accordance with the outside word. Freud considered the ego to be very sensitive and prompt to react to anything it considers unsavory in the outside world that it confronts.
However, having a strong ego has the positive advantage of reacting positively to criticisms and problems. It urges one to proceed forward with determination to achieve the desired goal.
For example, the ego would make the person realize that there is armed security in the museum and there is no way to grab the piece of artistry from the museum. The ego, in the other example, would also tell the person that there is no way to smack the other person who is much stronger physically than him.
Finally, the superego, according to Freud, is the moral branch of personality, which goes beyond being the realistic. It reflects the values arid judgment, including the ones developed during one’s childhood upbringing that forces the demands of the id to be met not only realistically but morally.
Freud believed that one’s personality is based on the dynamic interactions amongst these three components. The super ego would reflect, and realize that the consequence of grabbing the piece of artistry from the museum or smacking a person in public would not only be construed as a criminal offence, but will be morally improper.
The person may instead choose to look at other options to procure at low cost a replica of the same piece of art. Similarly, instead of hitting, stating a counter-point that communicates strong displeasure may be more appropriate. It is interesting to note that all-round development of the personality is also the main theme of the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda.

Perfection in content and look-and-feel are both important to them. These leaders are very dedicated, and have an extremely intense work ethic. To such leaders, a flaw in execution is an absolute no-no. Hence, to ensure flawless execution, they develop and pursue systematic processes with intense rigor. These processes include multiple checks-and-balances at each step to ensure that errors surface in the early stages and get rectified.
3. Lofty standards :
Another characteristic of such leaders is setting lofty standards. They benchmark themselves with the highest global standards, and strive for themselves and their teams to achieve the same. b. Helpers:
These leaders seek out opportunities to assist others. They are often good coaches and sounding boards for their people. Their personality is built on sincere skills to listen to, and to understand the needs of others. These leaders thrive on building and nurturing relationships.
Three key attributes of these leaders that are based on strong interpersonal skills are:
1. Smiling demeanor:
They have a pleasant personality, are optimistic, and have a cheerful attitude not only about work, but also about life.
2. Generously appreciative:
To get the best out of their teams and peers, they are always generously appreciative of the work they do. They do not lose an opportunity to encourage their people and give a pat on their back to increase their team’s enthusiasm to encourage further contributions. They show that they care.
3. Empathy:
This implies understanding the position of someone from one’s own position. In other words, these leaders put themselves in the other’s shoes and try to understand how they would feel if they were in the same position.
Helpers, however, often get trapped in their over-zealousness to please and support many people. Their weakness is their inability to say ‘no’ . They cannot turn down requests from others. Thus, they bring unto themselves huge mental stress as more and more people get to depend on them.
Strong leaders who exhibit this personality trait find a way to overcome this handicap, by coming up with a scalable model with others sharing the load of supporting the people who are dependent on them. c. Achievers:
These are leaders who excel in a single-minded pursuit of their goals. What characterizes these leaders is their focus and relentless pursuit of moving ahead while removing obstacles that come their way.

1. Goal setting:
These leaders set aggressive, but realistic goals. They begin with a clear vision of what they set out to do for their work groups and for themselves. They break it up into near-term milestones for the teams—and ensure that the team remains focused on them at all times.
2. Execution:
Achievers are highly execution-oriented and this is their biggest strength. They overcome barriers that come their way. They plan well, monitor risks at all times, and provide for contingencies. They are also known for building a culture of efficiency in their organization.
Lack of efficiency and competence in their teams that slows execution frustrates them. Speed means a lot to achievers—and they do everything to inculcate these traits amongst their team members. Learning from achievers can give a jump-start to a young professional’s career.
By observing such leaders, one can understand the art and science of goal-setting and instill in themselves the spirit of maniacal execution. People with highly ambitious career goals develop the personality traits of achievers and learn from those who practice it effectively.
d. Romantics:
Romantics are idealistic leaders. They crave for Utopia—in terms of where they want to see themselves, and their groups and organization. They set goals that may not be realistic—but ones that ‘looks and feels glamorous’. They are expressive and often excel in artistic pursuits as part of, or in addition to their chosen profession.
Some personality traits of romantics are:
1. Set lofty vision that may not be grounded in reality:
These leaders lack realism. They dream and set goals that are impossible to meet—but create a (short-lived) feel-good ambience.
2. Lack focus and are poor in taking decisions:
Romantics are unable to focus on a goal and take hard decisions that are needed to move forward in pursuit of the vision.
3. Kind and people-friendly:
They are kind-hearted, humorous, love to interact with people, can spend long hours discussing how things should be (and are not today).
e. Observers:
These leaders have a strong sixth sense. They are highly intuitive in gauging situations.
1. Intuitive:
Observers are highly perceptive. They have a keen power to process the events around them, do a causal analysis, and come to their own conclusion. They are more curious than others, and often get deeply entangled in analyzing seemingly minor events around them for a long time.
2. Critical:
The observations made by these leaders lead to critical and sharp conclusions, sometimes bordering on pessimism.
Observers are loners. In fact, they appreciate being left alone and be given the time to analyse situations in depth.
Observers like to be respected for their well thought through views and in-depth analysis. They do not take to criticism very lightly and tend to get argumentative if doubted.
In one’s career, having some aspect of the traits of the observer can help an individual be perceptive of the situation around them, and take the right career decisions.
f. Questioners:
These are leaders who keep an organization honest and move in the right direction without getting into complacency.
Key attributes of questioners are:
1. Analytical skills:
Questioners possess the gifted ability to think on their feet. They have a sharp analytical bent of mind which helps them in finding flaws in arguments and in the rationale.
2. Lateral thinking:
These leaders possess the skills for lateral thinking. When most others in a team are naturally drifting towards a conclusion, questioners bring in fresh perspective and lateral thinking.
3. Articulate:
These leaders communicate crisply and forcefully. They are usually respected for their views. Enthusiasts lend an air of optimism around them.
They have the following attributes:
1. Variety:
They thrive on variety. Enthusiasts tend to move from one role to another, and even change professions completely over the course of their career.
2. Story teller:
Enthusiasts love to dream a future, and tend to get their teams-excited about it. These dreams may not be grounded in reality, but that does not bother the enthusiasts. They tell stories to their teams about how the world will be in their desired future state.
3. Spontaneous:
They are spontaneous, have high energy and eternally optimistic. Often they have an infectious personality that rallies people around them. Enthusiasts or adventurers, however, fail to sometimes carry through on their commitments. Their execution and attention to detail are sloppy, and need strong people to balance them.
People interested in following a career in public speaking need to have some traits of Adventurers, as they go from one situation to the other, telling stories of successes and new models for growth.
h. Bosses or Asserters:
People with the ‘Boss’ personality are those with high determination and are possessed with a sense of direction. They have a clear idea of the direction to be taken, and are dismissive of other’s views.
Some of the traits bosses or asserters exhibit are:
1. Courageous:
Asserters have strong conviction of thought. They have an independent mindset, and are confident of their approach. They are not afraid to take unpopular decisions.
2. Power orientation:
They love to have the power and even demonstrate the power to their subordinates and peers. They come across as dominating in meetings and sometimes are poor listeners.
3. Supportive of team:
Strange as it may seem to some, asserters fight for their people and protect them in discussions where their worth is challenged. Asserters are strong personalities who may be dismissive of good suggestions from their team members, if these are contrary to their opinion.
Extremely assertive leaders sometimes lead to a high-stress situation in organizations, and often cause bum-out. One who needs to turnaround an organization from a crisis by taking hard decisions can learn from the skills of asserters.
i. Mediators or Peacemakers:
An organization cannot do without peacemakers. Conflicts are common in any organization, and peacemakers ensure these do not go out of hand. While peacemakers play an important, sometimes invisible role in an organization, they sometimes feel frustrated at the lack of due recognition for the thankless role they play.
Peacemakers are characterized-by the following:
1. Good at arbitration and trustworthy :
These leaders observe situations and carefully listen to positions of all concerned. They then deftly look for possible middle-ground. They are trusted by all, because they do not play games and are genuinely interested in a solution. This helps them to be effective in volatile situations.
2. Hate conflict :
Peacemakers try to take the steam out of confrontational situations. They tell the warring parties why ‘winning’ is inconsequential and take both sides to a compromise. They thrive in harmony.
3. Like to be respected :
They have an inherent desire to be respected for the critical role they play in an organization to keep the harmony. A leader is capable of changing the scenario from you versus me, to you and me.
