Top 4 Disadvantages of Social Media
The dangers of social media are massive, despite the fact that it has numerous benefits, the effects of social media can lead to harmful results sometimes.
Lack of Security
As social media has become more accessible to anyone with an internet connection, people have become more vulnerable to hacking.
Many users upload important parts of their lives to social media platforms, communicate with people they don’t know, and are uneducated about the do and don’ts of having a social media account.
This leads to hackers taking advantage of such people and end up costing them their valuable information.
Leads To Addiction
The ability to interact and contact friends and family at any time and from anywhere, along with a great volume of content, has led to social media addiction .
People spend more time on social media, communicating with people all over the world, and consuming content, and as a result, they get disconnected from their surroundings.
Unrealistic Expectations
What we see on social media is the ‘ideal’ part of a person’s life, and not their insecurities and problems.
When we forget this, we start to compare the negative parts of our lives with the positive parts of the lives of our peers that we see online. In the long run, this damages our self-esteem.
Adverse Influence on Children
Children who are addicted to social media spend hours per day watching videos, photos, and other content posted by the accounts they follow.
Other activities, such as schoolwork, sports, study, and other productive routines, are jeopardized by this addiction. In the end, the influence of social media negatively impacts the well-being of children.
It also affects their socializing skills as they find it more comfortable to talk behind the phone rather than facing the person.
In conclusion, social media offers both benefits and drawbacks, but it all relies on the individual who uses it.
The information provided can be seen as debatable but our article is not a thesis on social media and is just an accumulation of researched information in a simple and precise format.

Most people believe that social messaging is more of a benefit than a consequence, but using social media can actually be harmful. Social media is something most kids, teens, and even some adults are using all the time. It has become a part of our generation’s lives. Having people on their phones all day long is not only disappointing, but also damaging. Instead of talking to someone face-to-face and hanging out, people prefer just texting or going on a social network. For some people understanding a life without social media is near impossible. Using social media can have some adverse effects such as: it causes cyberbullying, it can compromise education, and it could have an effect on social skills.
Today, social media is everywhere. Playing a big role in people’s life social media has made interactions among people easier. However, although, social media is easy to use it brings society many problems. In other words, in spite of the fact that social media has been, and still is, an essential means of communication, it can be harmful intentionally and unintentionally. Therefore, I strongly believe that social media does more harm than good and that social media users should think twice before publicising their posts on the internet since firstly cyberbullying has become predominant ever since the introduction of social media, secondly there has been a decrease in face to face interaction between people and thirdly it’s a waste of time for young people.

Many times younger users have to lie about his or her age which is not always approved by his or her parents (Moreno et al. 253). A survey was done from children ranging from eight years old to twelve years old to provide the results that those who lied about their age did so within a four year range of their actual age. Thus, they knew they had to use false information, so they provided it with care (Moreno et al. 256). Because of the easiness to create an account falsely, it also makes it simpler to deceive one another. Deception is used to attack another user potentially causing upsetting consequences.
