Wouldn’t you rather spend less time training your animal and have more time with them? Not to mention, dogs can be a pain to take on walks, but cats use the litter box without any assistance. Elizabeth Allen (2015) states, “The results of the study reveal that while cats might prefer to interact with their owner, they do not rely on them for reassurance when in an unfamiliar environment, and the researchers believe this is because of the nature of the species as a largely independent and solitary hunter.” This study shows that although most cats like interactions with their owner they do not need them.

Essay on Training A Dog Properly
- 7 Works Cited
It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend. In the last 14,000 years, dogs have accompanied man by helping him hunt, guard, and protect. In our modern world, dogs help us combat in war, search-and-rescue, guide the blind, deaf, discapacitated, rehabilitate patients in therapy, aid law enforcement, and are part of our family as beloved pets (Coren). Although canine superstars such as Lassie, Old Yeller, and Rin Tin Tin portray the perfect dog we all want in our lives, these ideals are far from the truth. Many first-time dog owners expect dogs to know behaviors such as how to walk on a leash, not bite, not destroy the house, and in addition to many others. In reality, dogs must be trained on what their handler wants them to do. It is

Difference Between Dogs and Cats
Dogs and cats are the most popular pets in the whole world. Even though they’re both very popular, they are different in many ways. Some people gravitate towards the calmness of a cat, while others seek the companionship of a dog. Cats are a lot more independent and less expensive. Cats don’t require nor do they want to be trained to be a house pet . Dogs on the other hand are very loyal and will act as your best friend. Dogs require more attention and training to be a well behaved family member. The main differences between dogs and cats are their personalities, habits, and training, which all determine what pet to choose. When you’re choosing which pet to get, think about your situation at home and how much free time you have during the day. In today’s household, 36% of them have dogs and 30% of them have cats (U.S. Pet Ownership Statistics). This statistic shows that cats and dogs are the most popular pets and it can be tough to decide which one to get. People that aren’t home a lot shouldn’t get a dog because a dog needs to be played with everyday to keep it health and happy. A cat would be the better choice for someone that is busy a lot because cats wonder and do their own thing, but they will always come back to their home. If you have small kids at home, four or younger, consider getting a cat. Cats are a lot calmer and would be safer around young kids. A dog has a lot of energy and even though they are just trying to play, they could hurt a young kid many different ways. Another thing you need to think about is the size of the animal that you want. All cats are about the same size and there all lap animals. Dogs come in all different sizes; some are small like cats but others are very big. Even though there are small do... ... middle of paper ... ...t difference between a dog and a cat is the training involved. If you want to get a dog you better be prepared to train the dog a lot and you need to have patience with the dog. Argumentative Essay On Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats
Argumentative essay on assistance dogs.
Assistance dogs today do not receive as much credit as they deserve. One may be asking what is an assistance dog? According to the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), an assistance dog is, “Any guide dog, signal dog, or other animals individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability” (“Commonly Asked Questions About Service Animals in Places of Business”). Only .9 % of disabled people have a service dog, and in the U.S. 43 million people were recorded to have disabilities back in 1990 (Service Dog Central). There needs to be a bigger emphasis on the training programs available for assistance dogs, and how they can benefit our community. Currently, the media tends to focus on raising funds for troubled animals. While this is an important need, there is a greater need for increased funding for service animals and awareness of the many ways they contribute to society.

Good afternoon ladies and gentleman! I am Hunter Johnson. I attend school at St.Paul Elementary school and I am in the eighth grade. Can owning a pet reduce stress? Many pets can reduce stress. When I was old enough to understand that my parents were divorced I was heartbroken. Then my mom and I got a pet which was a dog named Rocky to cheer me up. Rocky took away most of the stress from going to different homes from the divorce. Now all of it is gone away because Rocky was there for comfort and I have gotten used to it. I think owning a pet is important because maybe if anyones blind they can go get a trained dog to take them and guide them, if anyone is having trouble with their family they can go pet their pet for comfort, and pets are fun to play with when I am bored.

Personal Narrative: How Having A Dog Changed My Life
Dogs have long been known to make great companions. I have heard from many people who own a dog that a dog is capable of boosting your mood and your health. But is it true? I didn’t know if it was all true until my sister surprised us with two tiny dogs. After having our dogs for several months I noticed it does change our lives in many ways. For me, my dogs changed it by showing me how to care for them. They also taught me how to understand them and how to love them even when they’re annoying and clingy. Having a dog teaches us patience, commitment, and selflessness. Caring for a dog takes a lot of responsibility and commitment. We also learn to be less focused on ourselves and be more patient, as pets can sometimes test our patience. Owning a dog can actually have a special impact in our lives.
Persuasive Speech On Owning Pets
Attention Getter: You just got home from a long day at school and the first thing you see is a huge mess. Euthanize Dogs Persuasive Essay
Dogs that bite people are getting euthanized. Sure they shouldn’t be given to children if they are snapping at people, but think about the innocent lives taken away. Dogs who were saints, whom might have accidently bitten someone thinking that person might be hurting someone, are being taken away to be killed, leaving children devastated. There is an issue, stating whether the state should euthanize dogs for hurting people. It is not right to euthanize dogs because it is unfair due to equal rights, it is cruel to kill animals, and there are possibly better ways to treat dogs who bite people.
Persuasive Essay About Pets
When having a pet in the house it provides motivation to get active. Kids are encouraged to go play outside with their beloved pets and adults are encouraged to exercise the pets such as going on walks or throwing the ball outside. Studies from the UK and Australia “have found links between dog ownership and increased physical activity and healthier BMI in children, though this most recent study didn't find such a correlation”. Pets can serve as workout partners for all the obligors that rely on something to keep themselves motivated. Picture waking up one morning and not feeling the six mile jog you told yourself you would do the previous night. However as you sit up in your bed and look over to see your dog sitting so politely with those big puppy dog eyes. Through all of the aspects of each animal, we look at the similarities and differences each one holds, now lets get a good insight as to why these animals are so loved. Dogs are fun and a lot of work but it sure is worth it. Cats, on the other hand, I don’t care for. I had a cat when I was only about one year old and she got run over by a car. Ever since then my family has had a dog. Maybe if I had a cat when I was growing up I would like them more. Owning a puppy is a big commitment for all family members, especially in the first few days or weeks.
Everyone knows that cats and dogs are as different as day and night. Dogs will play frisbee with you all afternoon and cats will take a three hour nap. Dogs will tilt their head and listen when you talk and cats will just yawn and fall asleep. I’m going to discuss the differences and similarities between cats and dogs that pet owners will think about. A difference between cats and dogs are the different ways they hunt. As hunters cats are physically remarkable and unique. From the smallest housecat to the wild big cat they are physically suited as exceptional hunters.
Their eyes are suited to pick up even the slightest movement. Also, they have excellent night time vision. However, details of an object or its color may not be that clear. Their hearing and sense of smell are also perfectly suited for a hunter. Cats have extraordinary flexibility, and excellent running and jumping capabilities. As group hunters dogs are physically different than cats. Dogs are often best suited for finding prey. One of the most remarkable canine skills is its tracking ability. This can be seen in many working dogs that use their tracking abilities for search and rescue, or to detect specific substances.
This shows both a remarkable nose and an ability to be trained, along with a desire to please, while cats have a desire to please themselves. Most dogs also have exceptional hearing. Dogs have also been bred by people to have particular traits. Some breeds are particularly good at picking up a scent, others are suited to hunt and retrieve and others are fast runners. While cats are bred too, it isn’t to the same extent as dogs and cats aren’t typically bred for a particular ability like dogs are. Taking care of a little puppy is like taking care of a new born baby. You constantly have to watch them and know what they’re doing.
Cats and dogs have several similarities. Both of them are domesticated animals kept as pets. They eat meat, mice and never eat vegetable They require love and affection and can show their love and affection. On the other hand, there are some great differences between cats and dogs) The first difference that can be easy to notice is that a dog is a pack animal and a cat is not.
They love being embrace and stroked. Whenever their owners them, they are really happy, and satisfactory.
On the other hand, there are some great differences between cats and dogs. The first difference that can be easy to notice is that dogs are pack animals and cats are more of lone. As a pack animal, dogs like a social and gregarious life. They love the company; they will never feel bored if one spends a lot of time with them. They do not like being isolated out of the community; generally, they like to follow their owner wherever. In contrast, a cat is a solitary creature, hunting alone. Cat loves to spend lots of time alone, like sleeping in the warm sunlight by itself, solitary wail, and so on.
The second difference is that dogs are generally smarter than cats. Their owners can train the dogs to do tricks when commands in a short time, conversely people have to whether to spending a lot of time to train cats or cannot. Some of the most common tricks of dogs are to roll over, to shake hands, to sit down, to lie down, and to stand by two legs, and so on. Besides, do tricks, dogs are trained to fight skill when their owner is attacked suddenly. In contrast, we have never seen a cat do any of these things. The only thing a cat is good at is to catch mice. Finally, the remarkable difference is that the dog is more loyal than the cats.
While cats are bred too, it isn’t to the same extent as dogs, and cats aren’t typically bred for a particular ability like dogs are. Taking care of a little puppy is like taking care of a newborn baby. You constantly have to watch them and know what they’re doing. Unlike a cat where they are given a toy and they will play with it for hours. Training a puppy isn’t the same as training a cat. With a new puppy, you have to train them to go to the bathroom outside. Not anywhere in the house. A puppy can only hold on an hour for every month of his or her age plus another hour. So if a puppy is 2 months old it can only hold for three hours. The key is to prevent mistakes and establish good habits early.
Cats generally don’t go outside to take care of business. Cats have a litter box in the house. Most kittens will readily adapt to a litter box, especially if they were raised with a mother cat. If they pee on the carpet the owner should drag them to their box and force them to dig. But with a puppy, you try to make them stop and hurry them outside. Training pet commands are also different. Dogs will sit, lie down, and heel on command. Cats, on the other hand, will just smirk and walk away. Another difference between cats and dogs is their social interactions. Dogs are more of pack animals. Members of their pack or family are very critical to them.

To begin with cats, who belong to the family of felines. Cats I feel are loners, I say this meaning a lot of time alone without getting lonely, and they prefer it that way; they like spending time away from people. Cats have retractable claws as well, which dogs do not. The sounds they make also differ from dog. Typically you will hear a “meow” or a “purr” from a cat. I have a cat and a dog, and to me it seem like cats do not have ranks in social status; meaning all cats are basically equal, one doesn’t dominate over another.
The signals a cat gives off is not to much of a difference but it can compare to a dog because, when they what’s attention or show a sign of happiness is getting close to you with its tail up. Cats are also nocturnal which dogs are not, meaning they go out at night, I’ve personally heard that a cat sleeps one third of its life. Cats seem to be very well-balanced and a lot more flexible than dogs. Most would say that cats have a higher intelligence than dogs do. Dogs, on the other hand are canines. They are a pack of animals, which means you should spend lots of time with your dog so that it doesn’t get lonely.
If they pee on the carpet the owner should drag them to their box and force them to dig. But with a puppy you try to make them stop and hurry them outside. Training a pet commands is also different. Dogs will sit, lie down, and heel on command. Cats on the other hand will just smirk and walk away. Another difference between cats and dogs is their social interactions. Dogs are more of pack animals. Members of their pack or family are very critical to them. They look for a leader, and may try to take the leadership role if they don’t see that another member of their pack is the leader.
Dogs’ goes “woof”, “bark”, a growl or a howl; complete opposite of a cat. The canine group also has a particular social status, and how they determine their ranks. The determining factor in dogs is the tail. In dogs, how high they hold their tail is how they would determine ranks. If one dog meets another dog, and one holds its tail up, it is one of the higher social class. Dogs are day animals. Another very obvious difference between dogs and cats is that dogs are usually bigger than cats. When it comes to verbal command, dogs are somewhat smarter than cats in that area.
For example, I can call my dog by name and usually it comes to you unlike a cat. Also, you can train dogs to do tricks, on a wide scale unlike cats, when commanded. As one can tell there are various similarities and differences that dogs and cats hold to each other. This compare and contrast of these two pets can be perceived in different ways. Some may think more highly of cat do to their intelligence, while others will choose a dog any day because of their companionship. It primarily relies on the personality of the person.
This is very different from the way cats interact with each other. Cats are not pack animals. They do not look for a human leader to follow. Cats are more independent then dogs. The relationships cats form are based more on behavior, treatment, and territorial and survival concerns. A cat that is treated badly will rarely stick around. But if a dog is treated badly it will very often return because they are connected to those people regardless of their treatment. So there are the facts, dogs and cats are very different, even though they are two of the most common household pets.
Knowing these differences could help a person choose which pet would be best for them. Cats and dogs are much like a child. They are known to create unwanted messes and become an inconvenience in your life. Both cats and dogs give their owners companionship and affection, but they can also strain your time and money. Emotional attachment and the loss of a pet are some drawbacks that come with bonding with a pet. The love one receives from something that is completely dependent is unexplainable. Dogs and cats truly teach life lessons, such as responsibility and love, and impact someone’s life.

How it works
Have you ever wondered why some people prefer cats while others prefer dogs? There are many reasons to get a pet. One could choose to get a pet for a companion, or to simply add to their family. Age also plays a factor in deciding the reasoning for taking on a pet. Older folks often choose to get a pet for companionship whereas younger folks tend to get a pet before making the decision to have children. Many families add a pet to their home for their children One of the toughest decisions any potential pet owner faces is what type of pet to get. For me, the decision is easy. I prefer dogs over cats. Having a dog as a pet as opposed to a cat, is much more beneficial and enjoyable specifically because of their behavior, convenience, and loyalty.
Dogs provide a more active lifestyle for their owner. Dogs are very energetic and require constant walks and lots of physical interaction. Cats typically prefer to be more independent and stay home. This makes a healthier lifestyle for the dog and the owner. Have you ever seen someone walking their cat? Cats are not as active and do not require the same amount of physical activity, which does not benefit the health of the owner or the cat. Dogs can also learn several tricks, and they learn them a lot easier than cats. I personally have never seen a cat do the tricks that a dog can do, for example: roll over, play fetch, or sit. While training a dog, the extensive time spent one on one with the dog can help in establishing a healthy relationship with their owner. Dogs can be trained to alert their owner when someone is on their property or even attack on command when the owner says so. Some dogs are even trained as police dogs and aide in missing people/object searches, detecting firearms, or detecting illegal substances.
Being a dog owner over a cat owner is a far greater convenience. Dogs are more sociable than cats and have an easier time adapting to their surroundings. Whether sitting on your front porch or jogging down a trail, dogs are content just being with their owner. Dogs also use the restroom outdoors whereas cats use a litter box. If your dog wanted to ride to run a few errands with you, you would only need a leash and some water. Your cat would require a litter box, making dogs much more convenient.
Just as a child knows when their parent is around or not, dogs are the same. They become happy when they see their owner, while sad and distressed when they see that they are gone. Dogs are pack animals. They want to be part of a group, whether made up of dogs or humans. Dogs have the natural instinct to bond with their owners. No matter what kind of day you had, what you did or didn’t do, or how long you were gone, a dog will greet you with the same enthusiasm and excitement every time.
I think dogs are better than cats for many reasons. I’m sure it is not without reason that dogs are called “man’s best friend.” They are loyal, obedient, and also protective. Even if their attempts at protection are sometimes unnecessary, at least they try.
Growing up my family had one cat and one dog. On one occasion while setting off fireworks on the Fourth of July, we set off a firework that smoked and was spinning in circles. Hamilton, our golden retriever, assumed we were being attacked and attempted to bite the firework to protect us. Meanwhile, Cali, our calico, sat and watched without showing any sign of worry.
Cats are also terribly ungrateful, showing no thankfulness whatsoever if they are given special treatment of some sort. They just generally assume that any special treatment is nothing more than what they deserve. Cats are overly independent as well, and enjoy pretending that they don’t need you or anyone else. Cats should definitely not be considered your best friend.
For a while, our cat’s bed was a soft towel folded up on top of the nice warm hot water heater which suited her just fine until she learned that the dog had a cushion to sleep on. So whenever she had the chance, she kicked the dog off of his cushion and used it herself. We eventually decided to fix the problem by getting the dog another cushion and giving the cat his old one. The new cushion was slightly larger than the old one, which was just as well since it fit him better. The slight change in size however, did not go unnoticed by the cat, who decided that she would then share with the dog and give him back his old cushion. Now the dog sleeps in the nice warm house on his large plush cushion, and the cat sleeps in the back room on her small cushion.
You’ve probably been asked at some point in your life if you’re a dog person or a cat person. Some people love both animals. But if you had to live with only one, which would you choose? Conclusively, dogs are better than cats. The loyalty, bravery, and human characteristics of dogs, as well as, the service and personal benefits of owning a dog far exceed those of owning a cat.

Compare and Contrast Dog and Cat Essay: How to Write About Differences
By: Angelina Grin

Sample of a Compare and Contrast Essay Using Cats and Dogs
Research and citations, alternating method vs block method, linking words and phrases, recommendations for writing a comparative essay.
You have been tasked to write an essay to compare and contrast between two things, and this can be a difficult task for you that you might want to ask essay writing service for help instead.
However, it is important to also learn how to do this on your own. In this scenario, we will use cats and dogs wherein we contrast both cats and dogs as a point of comparison. Wherein, this contrast essay will help guide you on how to write your own comparative essay.
When it comes to raising a pet, an immediate thought in a potential pet owner's mind is: "should I get a cat or a dog?" given that these are the most common pets to have. According to a study by PetFood Industry , when it comes to international pet ownership, out of a survey of 27,000 people globally, 33% were dog owners while 23% were cat owners, making them the most popular pets in the world.
However, despite our four-legged friends being widely accepted and sharing a lot of similarities, these are two different animals with two very different traits. Therefore, this essay aims to look at the different personalities of your future pet and how well it may fit you. This is because, at the end of the day, it really does matter if you are a cat person or a dog person.
First, let us begin with the similarities of these creatures and how to properly care for them. Both these animals have fur, thus requiring constant grooming such as regular washing and combing, especially if you do not want to deal with fleas. Fleas can cause skin allergies, prolonged scratching from all the itchiness can cause an infection, or your pet may get anemia from the loss of blood. Fleas can also possibly transmit other parasites such as tapeworms to your pet and even aggravate any respiratory illnesses or complications. And while fleas cannot live in a human's body, they can still bite you and give you the potential side effects they give your pet.
In addition to why you should groom your pet is that they shed their fur, and it gets everywhere, more so in certain seasons than others. Cleaning off their hackles is no easy feat, and getting a fur roller and air purifier can add up to a lot of costs.
Aside from this, though, the only other similarity cats and dogs bring their love and affection for their humans. In terms of differences, however, it can be a really long list. But we can look at the main differences of what makes each not necessarily a better pet than the other, but what makes each unique.
To start with, pet cats are known to be very clean. They are generally known to always clean after themselves and others through licking several times a day. Therefore, you do not really have to think about cleaning after a cat as much, you are most likely to just focus on their litter boxes. But as far as cleaning goes, you can depend on them to do it themselves. A dog will be different because they don't groom themselves. Dogs love to run around, and they can get messy in the process, but they are not built to clean up after themselves and would heavily rely on human assistance for that.
As mentioned, dogs rely on humans a lot and are not as independent as cats; this is not particular with cleaning but with their overall behavior in general. While both cats and dogs can be trained, it is a dog that usually requires more time and training than a cat, so you spend a lot of time caring for it and telling them what's wrong from right. The end result, however, reaps better benefits toward the dog than a cat. A dog will gladly come wagging its tail toward you if you call its name. Contrast cats who might just acknowledge you by moving its ears to indicate you have been heard, stare at you, or even ignore you altogether. A cat's independent nature means that they will only come toward you if and when they want to, and not because you have called them.
Moreover, dogs are social animals and have a tendency to fawn over every person they meet; they are known to be "man's best friend" after all. They are entertained by attention and people and just love playtime, going out, and having fun together. On the other hand, a cat has their own body language and will not necessarily acknowledge you or your guests in general; however, they find ways to entertain themselves; they do not mind playing on their own or with others.
Cats can also seem a little quieter as compared to dogs. While dog lovers will love their dogs unconditionally, it cannot be denied that a cat's purr and meow is nothing compared to a dog's woof.
The list can go on and on between cats and dogs, and at the end of the day, some things may not fully apply because your pet just has a personality of its own. But in general, both pets are adorable and have their own charm that makes you fall in love with them on your own. As a general rule of thumb, however, if you are a busy person, it may be better to get a cat due to their independent natures. If you have the time and want a pet that has fun with the family, a dog would be the way to go.
Analysis of Sample Comparative Essay
Now that you have read our sample comparative essay, let us take a quick look at the factors that were present within the essay and see how you can apply them on your own.
When it comes to writing a comparative essay, you will be stating a lot of facts here and there, and both need to be backed with evidence. In the sample above, to prove that dogs and cats were commonly used as pets, a source was cited in the essay. The more research you put into, the stronger the weight of your statements will be
There are two ways to write a comparative essay, the alternating method and the block method. The alternating method is the method used in the sample wherein you juxtapose clearly identified points between A and B, in this case, cats and dogs. This is usually a preferred method as it looks more integrated and analytical.
However, not all points can be directly compared because nothing closely relates to the other, or you might want to build up more points about one than the other, or perhaps you are comparing more than the usual two things. In either of these scenarios, you would use the block method wherein you enlist all the points about one and then proceed to jot down everything on the other.
When you are writing a comparative essay using words such as "similarly" and "likewise" to compare and words like "on the other hand" and "however" for contrasting statements as seen in the sample essay above can guide the reader through the relationship of each text.
Just like all other essays, the main ingredients to writing a comparative essay would be to:
- Research: Whether it be a library or online, gathering resources to provide evidence and give you further ideas is a very critical step.
- Brainstorm similarities and differences: Once you have researched, it is important to jot all your thoughts down, let your brain overflow with your ideas.
- Outline how to layout the text: Once you have let your thought bubbles burst all over the place, it is now time to organize those thoughts, see what part fits where, and how you can correlate your research into each subject matter.
- Write your essay: Every essay will include an introduction, body, and conclusion. Once you have your outline ready, it is time to write your thoughts to completion.
- Plagiarism: Once you are done writing your essay, given that you have taken your content off of numerous pages, it is still highly important to ensure the uniqueness of your work and not something that is directly copy/pasted as it constitutes as plagiarism and can be considered a grave offense.
- Proofread and revise into perfection: It is best to do this over and over until you feel like it is your best. However, there may be times it is better to look over your work with an expert. While these can be a teacher, parent, or friend, there are services that offer essay help and can edit and proofread in order to get an outsider's view of your work or even perhaps provide you with a free essay.
